Yeah. I've done it too, on my xl600r dual purpose bike. 50/50 street dirt knobbies helped a little. No thank you, the only way I'm doing anything like that again is if it's a dirt bike with ice screws on the ice. Like brenndatomu showed. Otherwise, the bike is away if there's snow and ice.

Y'all know my feelings on coffee, but we had our friends youngest daughter over at our house last Wednesday night and Thanksgiving am. I made her coffee because she likes it. My wife bought some Christmasy blend for her. It smelled good, but that's where it stopped for me. I had to do cowboy coffee and then strained the water and grounds through filters because the coffee maker is MIA. I think it went up to the camper up north.

I grew up down the street from a decent sized farm pond...one year I got the bright idea to stud my tires, but not having any real money, my "studs" were hex head sheet metal screws into the knobbies of my '78(79?)MX100...it did work, kinda/sorta...the screws tended to come out too easily though, so didn't do that again.
Not my pic, but same bike

Do they stay in? I'd think they'd come out easily?
Also, that smooth metal head would be very slippery on ice?

When I was in my teens I used to trail ride in the winter and in the snow and mud. Not every day or weekend but now and again. Had to do it to get it out of my system. Just had to be careful crossing ice on the puddles or on the creeks. Last thing you want is to get wet when your outside riding in 30 degree weather. It was mostly fun.

Back in the day, I got my winter speed fixes on a 1981 Scorpion Sidewinder. I'm amazed I lived through my twenties!!!

Not my pic, but just like it.

I'll do ya one better. I got the bright idea to run tapcons from the inside out. Covered the heads with several layers of duct tape and wrapped the new tube with the old one. They where something to get mounted. Boy did they have traction though, as long as the snow wasn't too deep.

It’s not uncommon to see people ripping around the lake on dirt bikes here, last year I was a a lake and there were two dudes there that had a Ducati scrambler with picked tires on a trailer. I was fishing and watched them push it out on the lake and look at each other for quite a while then push it back on the trailer. Guess neither was ready to give it a go.

I've never seen it personally but supposedly here in Michigan its legal to ride an orv/bike on the ice. Technically you can't ride them in the parking lot but you can push them out on the ice. Just gotta have an orv tag.

Unfortunately it doesn't get cold enough around here to ride on the lakes. Could be fun. Those tires haven't been mounted in probably 15 years and probably never again. Iirr, I rode them around my parents 10 acres and maybe on they're small pond. Somewhere back maybe 2009?

The last number of years a local ice racing group has an open bike race in the ice, on like new years. I should go to watch at least. Sounds like fun and my wife would love it too.

Here's my old XL600R at my old house I grew up in. I should have never sold it. So much fun and memories on this bike. 20220406_181109(1).jpg
