Haha you guys are funny! Smokinpiney a little deadly force instruction but not enough was really just a basic handgun course. The licensing officer told me I didn't even have to take the course that I took since I had held another class of firearm permit before but was glad I did. Still make take a more advanced course later but as I said I don't plan on carrying for quite a while. Just got accepted to a club with a decent indoor range so this winter I'll be there whenever I can afford the ammo. Brother is older and licensed for a long time. He taught me how to field strip and clean the S&W and that is easy now. I was aware that there are places worse than MA to get licensed but it just seems like of all places to be tough, where the Country essentially began shouldn't be one of them. Thanks again for all the comments. edit: Gbreda, bike is good but sadly didn't get to ride half as much as I would have liked to this year.
Love the hadrware, unfortunately for us handgun ownership is virtually non existent and CCW is a wet dream.
Yah, going to Alaska is a bitch if you drive through from here. We took the ferry to get around all the CDN firearms laws. California is on its way to being the same though. Handguns are limited to a small list of tested ones, and all gun sales have to go through a dealer (taxes, license fees, permits and more fees, and a long waiting period). No such thing as a private sale in Cali for a gun. New Hampshire is the opposite: no state gun laws (except for easy to get CCW), and only federal laws. Live free or die! No income or sales tax their either.
Heck, as long as we're at it, lets add the Burning Smileys at the Stake emoticon: Only to be employed if the Wagging Finger emoticon fails to have a salutary effect. This is a wood burning forum after all, right?
CCW permit has been on my to do list for a while... Have to take an 8 hour class and fill out a 10 page permit. The state (by law) is supposed to issue the permit in 30 days -- but they are backed up months because of all the applications. The local walmart has AR-15's in stock; but you have to go next door to buy handguns from the pawnshop. No waiting period for either.
So when all the current ar owners move or die there will be no more evil black rifles in California... Wonder if they will hold a press conference when the last ar is destroyed declaring an end to all gun violence?
I have had my CCW permit since about the first month we were allowed to get them I Ohio. I have quite a few different personal carry guns. My wife also has her CCW and three different CCW pistols that are hers. Trust me I catch heck for touching them lol.
It is forfeit to the state if the AR-15 is in-state when the owner dies. Then it would be offered to state law enforcement, or destroyed. Here they are just another long gun. In CA my AR was classified as an assault weapon requiring the special permit for having more than one of any of these items (it has them all): pistol grip, detachable magazine, muzzle flash suppressor, grenade/flare launcher attachment pin, or a collapsible stock.
In essence, it's confiscation by natural causes...your death! In a generation they will have effectively eliminated an entire class of firearms from being legally possessed by law abiding citizens. I am depressed.
Yah, basically its how to remove guns from the state population, which the politicians there have been rather blunt about. It is actually a lot worse than that in CA though, as they also passed a 'junk gun' handgun law. Similar to having an AR-15, if you have a handgun that is not submitted, tested and certified by the state, it is classified as a junk gun. They passed the law in the guise to rid the streets of all the evil cheap handguns (Saturday Night Specials) that are used in violent crimes. However, any handgun that is not certified by the state is a junk gun, including many quality handguns that simply are not submitted by manufactures to the state to be tested. Or of late, if they have features that are being added to the banned list. For example, any handgun that has a capacity to hold more than 10 rounds in the magazine and chamber (11 or more total) is too many under a new extension to that law, and now more guns are being banned. The Sig Saur and Kimber Ten are now banned because of that.
If you guys want to have a private convo on the politics on guns I suggest you do please. Doing that will prevent this thread from going down the wrong road and getting locked. Political topics just turn threads that started off good to mush. Thx
