My wife took some pics and video while we were dismembering the tree after we had taken off what was safe and we needed to roll it away from the creek. We rigged the bull rope on it and hooked the loader up and it snapped the bull rope! So we put chain on it. still took the loader and truck both to roll it. another video
I'll signal it (them) to see if it has any tips on porting chainsaws or getting my wood stove more efficient... The next few weeks could change things significantly...
This past weekend we went over and took down the second big White Oak and a pine tree that got it's last few living limbs stripped off when we dropped the Oak. This Oak didn't have any leaves on it over the last couple summers. There was some rot at the bottom so I did a few bore cuts around the tree just below where I was going to cut it to ensure it wasn't just a shell on a hollow stump... It felt good with solid heartwood. I trimmed the sides so the 42" bar could take it down in a single cut and trimmed the rotten sap wood off the back so the wedges would have a nice clean place to do their job although with the slight lean in the direction where we wanted it to go the wedges really didn't do any work. As always, I had a bull rope up in the tree just in case... As we were limbing it we noticed a beehive in this tree in the first knot hole up from the stump in the picture below started to get active as the day warmed up. I actually was working in my tee-shirt for a while in the afternoon. Saturday turned out to be pretty nice. Finishing the clean up on Sunday was much cooler... 16" DBH Red Pine
After we finished up the trees, we went over to some logs we had left on site for the neighbors that they wanted us to make into a couple benches. These were a couple of logs from the two White Oaks that we took down earlier this summer. We put some large wedges cut from the waste under the front and back to keep it from rolling. It was actually comfortable to sit in except for the cold wind that was whistling through today... This one didn't need wedges as it had a healthy sized kickstand limb on the back of it to keep it in place.
