I'll be doing the same over the next few weeks. I like to have wood in place by Halloween.

That's probably a bit later than most of you would like but it's generally mild enough in these parts till then with the exception of a cool night here or there.

 

Looking through Walt’s gtg thread motivated me to get out and do some firewood stuff today. On my 3rd trailer load and it’s time for lunch.




Some of this isn’t exactly prime but it’ll throw some heat for a bit.

 

You need my mini truck for hauling back and forth.

 

That would be fun to have.

Could barely fit one last large trailer full in my throw in room. It’s stuffed more than it’s ever been.

 

Got all this wood stacked up in my basement. Measurements say 3.5 cords. I know I’ve never had this much wood in the house before. It’s a little too close to the stove but I’ll get through that small 3rd row pretty quickly.


The row on the right is 80% black locust. Saving that for the coldest of nights.




Probably split some wood this weekend to fill in where this wood came out of.

 

Nothing beats wood heat! I believe you’ll make it through another.

Looks like you are ready for old man winter. I still need to fill the patio but it'll get done.

 

If my boss didn't already have off Thurs-Fri, I think I would have taken off all next week. Weather looks great and I'd love to get some stuff done before that old man shows his face. I been scouring fbmp looking for easy scores.

 

Awesome stacks, lots of good looking splits. Always good to be the Ant not the Grasshopper.

 

I perused the farming areas I cut on Friday to see where the crops are down so I can get to some cutting soon hopefully.

 

Well, since that last couple loads left a gapeing hole in my privacy fence as seen here,


I just had to do something about it. Cherry and oak (black and white) on the menu.



In that first pic, I finally ran into the last of my old methods, T-posts! Took me a while but the stack on the other end did not have an end, so firewood jenga master I became.


Now I just need to fill it in. Back to work.

 

It looks like Roscoe is making sure nothing breaches the perimeter.

 

He’s definitely aware of everything. Rabbits hide under my stacks regularly and he smells and hunts. Never caught one though.



I took those 2 half round pics at 9:45a and I finished up around 4:30. Took a quick 2 slice pizza lunch in there too but I worked in slo-mo today. Just didn’t feel like hustlin’.
Split 4 trailer loads.





Couple eviction notices too. This is when red oak can smell not so good.

 

All the cherry is in the center row. Oak is the bread in the sandwich. Lol.

All covered up. Honestly felt like more wood than that.


One of my least favorite bands in the world but this song is fitting:

I saved some cherry heartwood for my smoker, and a bucket of frass. These stacks smell so good.



Now it’s time for a refreshment. Hope y’all had a great day. It’s was a perfect day to work outside in a tshirt!

 

Looks like a good time in the wood yard. About 4 o'clock I Was going to drag the splitter out and the light even but then I realized I would have no way to clean up the mess as both my wheelbarrows are full of dirt. I have the septic clean outs uncovered to get pumped this week so I just brought some wood in and made coffee. Another time

 

Please tell me all those blocks aren't a thermal mess experiment to dry wood......please!
