Also known in some areas as, a schoolmarm. Why that name? Cause it looks like a schoolmarm upside down.

It's the standing that I can't take. That's why I suggested to Walt he put a chair on one.

Clinkers- hard pieces left in the ashes from burnt wood or coal. Usually an accumulation of minerals, metal, dirt or other inorganic non combustible materials.

Rick or rank or face cord = 1/3 of a cord

Cord also incorrectly spelled chord which is an arrangement of musical notes.

Bucking to cut log/tree into short pieces. Most commonly 16-20” in the USA. Europe commonly cuts into 1 meter length that is later split and cut in 1/3’s.

Winch, wench, wrench. I seem to remember a thread discussing the benefits, risks and side effects of each of these.

Thread derail ahead = we are great at going off topic and even better at assigning a name for some of the more memorable or infamous events!

Red dress, feed thong, similar to above mentioned human torpedo. An event that lives on, usually retold numerous times, frequently as a result of an event or an epic thread derail. Usually good natured ribbing of an individual.

    Any memorable new terms?

I was wondering just hoe to bring that up....but being tactful at the same time. I couldn't think of any way.

The thong topic instantly morphed into thread topics for quite some time!

This is also the pith part of a log after the good boards are cut off at the sawmill. Cants are then usually re-sawn for pallet lumber or cribbage.

You Suck Award- Awarded to a fellow hoarder, in jest(mostly), who could not help but brag about a recent exceptional score ,which creates jealousy among us less fortunate hoarders. Even if we have too much wood already and no room for more.

Jag - this is a term my father used all through my growing up to describe an unspecified amount of wood. After mentioning it on another thread, I did search the term.

Scammer (closely akin to freeloader) :

One who preys on the good nature and sympathy/compassion of others. Typically begins by asking for a low priced wood stove; then immediately mentions that can't really afford it at the time so stove ends up being gifted. Then, successfully asks for shipping costs to be included along with free wood stove.

Immediately upon receiving the stove, continues the whining/crying process while mentioning the need for chainsaw......and associated equipment-extra chains, gas tank, bar oil, PPE, and on and on. Doesn't forget to add on the need for venting with wood stove install.

There is no end associated to the begging process. I has also been known to include plumbing repairs, dental work, and even pleas for the shipping of tractor parts.

Non-employment seems to be a prerequisite of being a scammer.

This type of activity lasts indefinitely or until the gifts have essentially stopped.

Typically attempts to assume the identity of another being; for example "a wounded bird".

I been misusing the term. I use it in reference to a Big load of wood. 'Buggy barely made it up the hill because I put a Jag on the trailer'
