Granted my pic is PRIME ribeye from there but still, it was indeed prime! I do say it's always worth checking out their choice cuts too though as often they can be extremely close in quality to the prime. Sometimes they are quite a bit leaner though, and then other times the primes don't look too great at all! Typically I just look for a good looking choice cut though. I'm too cheap these days for prime.
The only places around here that have better beef than Costco are some artisanal butcher shops. Usually about 50% higher in price though. Costco choice and Costco prime is awesome quality meat.
Will get a couple whole pork loins to cut to desired thickness from Sam’s but we have our own beef. Pic is some ribeyes from a grass fed 12 year old black angus cow we had butchered. They raise a calf every year, get sold or get butchered, no exceptions. 1390# live weight butchering cost around $600
Great thread, I am looking to do this to save a few bucks and plenty of meat on hand for the family. Unfortunately we don't have a Costco immediately near us, so we settle for Sam's club which is most of the time pretty solid.
I'm actually getting very fed up with our Costco. Doesn't matter what time of day you go, it's absolutely mobbed, ridiculously long check out lines and I'm always the one guy who's getting 2 things and everyone else has packed carts lol. One of the only things keeping me from getting rid of our membership is their beef selection!
I honestly don't go out anywhere except maybe the big box lumber stores for projects. And when I do go it's usually at 7-8AM or it's during the week when am off and even then I go early.
Back when they had diesel it was my go to spot, but I would get there on my way to work usually around 6:45am and it was QUIET! And they always had the absolute cheapest diesel around...but of course they got rid of it all. My wife is the one who goes there more far more extensive shopping than me, and she is more patient with the crowds than I am even with bringing our 3 kids there too. I don't know how she does it.
We don't have Costco so I go to Sam's. I usually hit it right when the doors open on Saturday AM and it is quiet. If you go there afternoon or evening good luck keeping your sanity.
Both of our Costco stores are like that at peak times of the day. We have adjusted our shopping times to avoid that as much as possible. Friday afternoon till close, all day Saturday and Sunday after churches let out are by far the highest traffic times. That said, we've rarely waited longer than 10 minutes to get to checked out once in a line at the busy times.
Since we are talking about Costco...The thing that pizzes me off most is the people eating the free samples...they get a freaking thimble full of food and a toothpick spoon to eat it. Stand in the middle of the aisle trying to eat rice with a toothpick! I wish it was legal to punch these stupid AHoles! Uuuugggh!
Yes! We shop when they open most often which alleviates that bs. Ffs you'd think they were handing out $100 bills the way some people plow their way to the free samples.
