Lol, true! Probably switch to battery when that time comes. Just pull the trigger and when you run out of juice in the saw I'll need a break anyway.

I plan to play the Song of My People for a long time ahead yet. So much that I've bought extra equipment to ensure I have running examples to last me.

Thank God I'm not the only madman around here to use canola oil/vegetable oil!  Some years more, some years less, but it works fine. Only thing I wouldn't do is leave it in a saw to sit over a long time, as it could/can oxidize over time. Pretty simple to run the last tank or two of the season with regular bar oil and you'd never know it was in there.

It does get a bit odd looking in the cold. But , it oiled just fine . Bar doesn't get any hotter or the chain any noiseier than running high dollar bar oil. It doesn't stink as bad as some bar oil does. Doesn't really smell at all as near as I can tell. I think my winter routine will be the same as when bar oil was much more affordable . Keep the jug in the cab by the heater when I go to work . Try to remember to run the oil tank dry by quitting time. Start the saw in the morning and let it warm up without spinning the chain very much. Then pour in liquid (warm) bar oil./seed oil. I won't call it cooking oil because humans should NOT get that stuff anywhere near their food ! But, it's the most affordable bar oil in this area. By a long shot !

You should see the North Slope every piece of equipment HAS TO have its duck ponds (fabric and foam , portable spill containments. And some pieces of iron (heavy equipment ) have a few of them . And Bales orabsorbs

In my situation, my oil was already used in the deepfryer and strained, and while probably not as good as new seed oil, it still worked fine for my needs. I've never burned a bar, and my experience mirrors yours, the bar doesn't get hotter far as I can tell. Funny how there's so much dogma where people won't even consider that it works for bar oil, even if you showed them. The cost of bar oil up here is insane, and by the $$$ numbers, if you were to use "used" motor oil, burn up a bar every 2 gallons (but you wouldn't, just for the sake of argument) you'd still come out ahead buying a new bar every time.

    Here's an example

Ouch. equals about $20 US dollars if I did the conversion right. The high end brand name (Husqvarna) goes for $25 gallon

Bar oil has always been a substantial cost to us up here.
We got to buy new bars and chains maybe just slightly more often .
But too . I can buy semi synthetic 5/40 motor oil here in Delta for less than $30. Per 5 quart jug.

Here's my Husqvarna 240 bar that drank canola oil and whatever mix by the gallon. Sold it last year to finance a muzzleloader! She served me well.

Cost of things really depends on location. For BMR to ship, if you don't live near, is

For other Canadian provinces and territories (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) a delivery charge of $45 is applicable for deliveries regardless of the total amount of the order.

Overweight charges may apply for items of more than 70 lb (31 kg) or of 48 inches or more. Valid for products available for online purchase at BMR.ca only. Exceptions may apply.*

There are local stores like Walmart, Rona, Co-op etc, but if you have any awareness of CanadaPost and shipping up here (or couriers), you'll spend almost $20 to send anything through the mail, and the cost goes up from there.
Walkers is in British Columbia (if we're thinking the same place), and would be 800-1000 miles from me, and even if shipping was free, there'd be no delivery to my door, so it would be a trip to town, so saving $8 pesos to turn around and spend on fuel doesn't help either.

Admittedly I am ignorant of Canadian logistics. Hurts my heart to see people being roasted for $30/gal bar oil.

I also did a quick shipping quote from Walkers, the product you listed doesn't have an option to ship, but one of the other ones (Stihl biodegradable) which would be similar weight, would be $36 for shipping for 4 of the 3 liter jugs.

Funny how when the gov't prints money like it's going out of style, everything costs more due to devalued currency...

Walkers shows me USD prices but says I'm not allowed to ship the hoosky oil.

Edit: I checked Walker's simply because his shop is the only one I know of up there, via 'toob videos.
