Guy I cut for part time for wanted me to use zip ties instead of measuring and marking logs with chalk to speed things up. Works pretty good from either end of the log, but I'll stick with my ruler and chalk. Guess this old guy is set in his ways. Attach a zip tie to the handle, measure from bars edge and cut it off to your desired length. Line up zip tie with end of log and cut. I've seen it done before but first time I've tried it. Anybidy do it this way?
I mentioned that in a recent conversation asking him to pay for it, which he declined of course. If there was incentive for me to do so I would. He loved my 400 with the bark box muffler, but it sucks down mix too fast so haven't used it there in recent cuts. He a big street bike guy.
That seems odd...a few hundred bux to make a noticable increase in production speed for your business, seems like a no brainer investment!
I agree. Im kinda mystified as he knows very little about saws. Guessed at the mix ratio on his gas and the other guy toasted another saw or two. How much faster percentage wise is a ported saw? I mean part of me wants to get one ported and use it there to show him, but there's no incentive for me.
Depends on the saw. Our Echo XS4910 almost doubled the HP, it out cuts several bigger saws with less weight. Kevin just did a Echo 7310 for a friend of mine, he said it's 2 seconds faster than a 462 he ported the next day and had more torque. The Stihl XS400 he did for us is a fast saw as well.
I haven't seen or heard anything about a 400.1 being available in the states yet. Have you Jim? Its gonna be a pricey saw too! How about you huskihl? have you seen any 400.1's?
I could see business owner investing that in one of his own saws(or other equipment) but to pay for someone else’s?? (no offense meant Brad)
I’m certain the right connection could make it happen, but tariffs with certain countries put it up close to $1600 to get here
Ported saws are quite a bit faster than stock. It depends on the saw, chain, wood, and user, but 25%+ would be a fair ballpark. Some get a lot more. Hp is usually close to a 40% gain. Again plus or minus. Rpm is bumped up by a fair margin and can run saws past their limited coils, and the coils have to be replaced with unlimited versions.
Someone's always got a better mousetrap. Tape measure and marking paint for me. I hope I never need to save the 'extra' time it takes me to do it.
