I run a local town uncensored page on FB. Recently brought on some extra help. Anyway this is the result of the first meeting with new staff. He had some logs (sticks) to get rid of. So we chatted while I pressed buttons. Not sure what type of oak that is in the top right, if it’s an oak at all, but the rest is white oak and black birch. I may go back for more.
Bragging about your staff again? Some nice Goldilocks wood there. Thinking its red oak? Ill be checking on the birch regularly! Wanna see load two tomorrow.
Shortly after posting this I took a ride into town to look at another possible score,,,,,and a point of much contention between warring clans in town Didn’t see much wood but it was fun to view the battlefield. On my way home tho Asplundh had set up on two roads near me, two crews, two roads. Talked to the cop and told him I’ll be back to steal all the wood When it rains it pours. Gonna get busy around here, time to start delivering wood too.
Got a message from a friend in town, bought one cord of “fireplace wood” earlier this year. He has a friend lives way out in Middlefield. About a 40 minute drive for me. A recent Vietnam vet widow buying wood for the first time. With those credentials and friend I couldn’t say no. I’ll put her on the list, she mentioned her grandchildren are visiting this weekend and will stack it for her,,,,,,,,,,,she made it to the front of the list with that one LOL. Gotta start somewhere/sometime. Opening up the GTG pen for the first load. Heres to ya GTG crew, you remember this one Just as an aside, those tarp clips didn’t fail, they held well.
Looks like a couple of those pallets will need to take disability retirement...that, or get hernia surgery!
Oh yeah they’re all scheduled to get cremated This pen was a test to see if these light pallets could hold the force with no strengthening at all. Well they can but not well, not well at all. I have 84 super heavy duty pallets all the pens will be made of from now on. I’ll cut the slats off of these for kindling and the rails with nails will go in the burn pile.
Well some of it went to Middlefield haha. Looking at my photo records that pen wasn’t top covered until June of this year. So far nice and dry inside with no sign of mold from being open so long. I was worried about that. No pics but there are some big Kahuna red oak logs down the road. A smattering of this or that too. The other road has some nice stuff on it and some not so nice stuff. I’m debating that road,,,,dangerous place to pull over. Just an old backroad but corners and hills you can’t see over. They put in a large subdivision some years back and the yuppies drive it like it’s a Lemans course.
Second load of Beech and Black Birch for mommas basement. It’ll be interesting to hear what she thinks of this wood after burning mostly oak all her life LOL. Breaking down the first pallet pen I ever built,,,Sept of 22 it was finished. Stuff was mostly dry when it went in there.
Two good sized oaks down the road. I’ll be putting the moves on these bad boys. Nice sugar maple (hopefully) not too far away also.
I've said it several times, but I'll say it again. I am amazed at the abundance of roadside scrounges in CT.
Its a common site. I passed a crew cutting close by today and asked, but they were just limbing. Ive said in the past I should have just a thread for what I pass in my travels and either don't want or have time for.
Well damm, it’s not looking good Brad. It’s on my mother’s cousins property, makes them my cousins too. And even though I grew up a mile away from them knowing them as uncle and aunt they ain’t giving it up. I called to ask and they said they’d get back to me. Somewhere I forgot just how much they hate giving anything away They own almost 200 acres and even their children and grandchildren arent allowed to live there LOL. They’re both hitting 90, thought they’d be happy to see it go to a family member. I was wrong. May have to hit the racetrack and see if there’s anything there worth dying over.
