    I have only came across dead standing once and to be honest I had no idea what it was but I was pleasantly surprised. The wood that I got was branch wood from a dead tree that is in a precarious place… time will tell if I get more of it.

    Yep and it’s weird because it has to die of natural causes. If’n you cut down a living tree and leave it until the bark falls off, and even if you buck it into rounds, it still isn’t the same as standing dead. Won’t split OR burn the same

    No maintenance; just leave the tree standing an extra year or 2 before you cut. Then cut and burn.

    Next time I cut some I will. None on my radar and nothing I aggressively pursue. Only take if easy.
    Im liking easier in my old age, even if it is elm.

    I had to look it up and February 2024 was the last time I got dead and barkless elm. It split really clean too. Unfortunately I ended up selling most of it to a customer in need this past winter. Looking back at these pictures makes me wish I still had a face cord of elm :loco: :crazy:

    Agree 100%. Doesn’t matter how long you let it season. If it is cut green, it is pretty terrible firewood. Standing dead and barkless, some of the best wood available in these parts. I love me some standing dead barkless elm. Way to go brother!

    I made it out to work this score this afternoon. Left town right at noon, and was pulling back onto the highway at 2:55.
