Oh boy , I am in the screwed up back club now Lifting some big stuff into the wagon to take em over to the splitter ,leaned over to far setting them in. Slept in the fetal position last night, I feel like a I am about 100 years old , this sucks. My back bothers me sometimes but not like this Can't do much in this sucky weather anyway
Thanks guys, I think It will be ok in time, actually feels a tiny bit better right now, did it 2 days ago
Hope not a disc. Mine was done near 25 years ago, drugs & shots worked for many years. 3 years back I got so much pressure on the nerve my right leg was going numb, Surgery time. Was amazing to wake up & walk with no sharp back pain. Not that my back is better, still have a sore back, just don't have the shooting pain across the butt & down the leg that knocks you to the ground . When I hang upside down for 5 to 10 min, it really helps. Stretching exercises help too. Good luck, Don't lift heavy stuff with your back ! Use mechanical help when lifting heavy stuff , get help, roll the big rounds etc ..... You know Hope it was just a teaching/learning moment & not a serious injury.
My doc told me motrin and Tylenol were a good non-narcotic combo. Different mechanisms of action that compliment each other. Tylenol is fine in the short term. It's the folks that want to pop 20 Vicodin a day (tons of Tylenol in it) that develop liver issues from Tylenol. However, Jack may have just meant that Tylenol is not an NSAID (Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory device).
I have learned to absolutely not play in the woodpile without putting on my back brace first. Mine is like a padded version of a weight lifters kidney belt with an adjustable belt latch. Unbelievable difference when wearing it. I have 3 herniated discs in my lower back so I take no chances. Also,at the end of the day, if I have gotten overly zealous, I automatically take two tylenol arthritis strength tablets before I sit down for the evening. They are working just right @ bedtime and allow mw to sleep well. Remember the old saying...."an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
HD if it is a disk let me know I still have a back brace from when I popped mine a few years back. It hurt like hell and sloooowly went away 15 years ago. 5 years ago I hit the floor at work like a pile of bricks tipping and couldn't feel my legs off to the hospital.... It is hard to tell but if your laying curled up there's a good chance it's a disk. That's a tell tail sign from what I was told.
Back problems suck! Been there done that and lived with it for years now. Best thing I ever did was two years of rehab that taught me how stretch and strengthening exercises. I was told mine was a disc early on and there wasn't anything they could do for it. I had shooting pains down through my groin that were so bad I couldn't even sit down for more than 5 minutes. With all of the outside work I have been doing lately I have been extra careful with mine lately as I can already feel the muscles are strained from use they aren't used to. Now I am getting along pretty good but still have an episode or two a year that put me out for a bit. The recovery time is much shorter now that I stretch and strengthen every day. Muscle spasms can also cause you to end up in the fetal position. They hit me so hard one time I ended up at the ER and it took two rounds of muscle relaxer shots before I could stand up enough to get out of a wheelchair, the wife thought she was going to have to call the squad to get me there lol. It only took about 40 minutes for me to crawl to the car though. I hope you feel better soon. It can take weeks for your back muscles to recover from hard spasms which is the sucky part. Sorry you are laid up.......Here's to hoping you feel better in a few days!
While most who cut wood feel that they get their fair share of exercise, there is exercise that will help you help your back. Ck out back exercise, google, youtube etc. it is like having money in the bank for your back. Prevention is better than recovery.
Yep, just meant that it's not an NSAID and that you should be taking one of the others to taking the swelling done. If you are taking it for pain, I would stack it with ibuprofen, they typically play nice together.
Thanks for the input and well wishes I have been taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen just once per day, today taking it twice. It was hurting across my whole lower back , now mostly on the left and down in my butt and leg a little . Did some stretching and, I dug the inversion table out of the corner of the basement and set it up ,inverted at 45 degrees for about 5 min, I will do it a couple times a day n see how it goes. I had a similar situation one time when I was lifting a seat up out of a car
