Had the large red maple tree taken down today. While it does not shade out the wood too much (surprisingly) it was good to get it taken down for safety. I’m estimating a cord of wood . Was happy to see very little carpenter ant activity or rot. Should be straightforward processing.
Yes that is an expensive cord, right MikeInMa? Did they buck it to length for you? If you measure the DBH and its 16" tree will yield a half cord. 22" is a full cord. The attached link is a great reference. Estimating Firewood from Standing Trees - UNH Extension
Yes, they bucked to length. I just have split and stack. I’ll get an exact measurement tomorrow but I’m guessing rhe DBH is about 25 inches or maybe a bit more.
Good deal. I've stacked wood based on the chart and it is pretty accurate. Harvest down to 4" diameter. Most tree guys go down to 6-8" from what I've seen.
Being able to keep the wood, does help with defraying the cost of the tree service involvement. We expect around $1k/per tree dropped. No bucking to size involved. Brush chipped up and taken away.
Guy charged me $1175 dropped and cut to length. Brush taken away. He had to climb and cut versus a bucket because of the location of it. I may have gotten a slight discount because it’s a friend of a friend.
