Beautiful day to be outside so I started moving wood to my basement for this coming season of burning firewood. 3 trailers full packed my well area. Found some critters too.
Picked this stack and hoping to move it all this long holiday weekend. All white/chestnut oak.

    Luckily this was unoccupied!

I mow right beside here so I’m glad they never bothered me!

This was snake number 2 and big enough for a pic. Just a garter.

Considering just releasing them back on the stack of wood.

This residence was occupied. I made quick work of em though. Bastages.

    Loads 2&3.

Roscoe stood guard on the bucket. Someone told him they threatened me.

Good deal The Wood Wolverine. I'm at least a month or more from filling the patio. Worked on tomato juice and the wife and I harvested pumpkins. About 25 Orange and also white. Some I planted some were volunteers. Vines were dying off. I did just ordered a new cat gasket so burning is coming to mind, going to pull the cat and give it a vinegar bath.

My sweet potato vines are not going nuts like usual this year. Hope they do well. Tomatoes were a constant fight to trim off blight.

Got all my wood stacked in the basement. I’ll keep going tomorrow. Hands are not happy. These 21-25” splits are too heavy and large to use my sling. Glad I went back to 18”.

3 more trailer loads finished off the stack. All restacked in the basement too. Almost had 2 full rows. 129” long on the back one, 111” for front.

OCD won’t let that go. I’ll have to throw in some more to top it off. Maybe tomorrow. It’s :pete: time.

    Right!?

That wood pile looks like a rough place...snakes, bees, attack dogs, sheesh!
I used to cut at 24", and split large, for my old Yukon Husky furnace, don't miss those at all! Those were so heavy that I sometimes had to use a heavy duty poker to support/slide the back of the split in if it was extra heavy and there were too many hot coals to reach in very far.
Now the Kuuma takes 20" nicely, and does fine on mostly smaller to medium sized splits, even some 16" stuff for the warmer winter months...much more gooder on the ole hands!

Good work Jason. Now you have caught up to me. Although I don't have a basement, there is now plenty of wood stacked right where it is needed.

This Englands will take 25” but with the weight of these splits, I decided a while back and have been cutting to load it E/W instead of N/S. Now I just have to get through 4-5 years worth of 21”. Right away I started cutting to 24, then found a way for the Mingo to mark 21 so I ran with it.

I let the 2 garters out of the bucket on the wood pile. They ain’t hurting me none, as long as they aren’t in the house.

I was loading splits on Saturday and smelled snake funk. I never saw it, but it must have been big to make a stink like that.

It's good to see folks on here getting ready for burning season. My burning season starts a lot later than yours. Posts like this get me into the spirit and dreaming of Fall!

Basement looks great, Jason. Glad the wasps didn't get you. Drier air and cooler temps down here are feeling great, too.

When I pick them up, I try to be real gentle. As a defense mechanism, they poop. It makes ya gag too, doesn’t take much. Roscoe made the first one do it. With the bigger one I kept him back.

    Good man.

I am just beginning to ready myself to move splits to the house. I ran it down to nothing last winter so I think I need to move 5-6 utility tailer loads to get it packed in. Then, I get to move the woods stack down to the lower storage area but will do that one Bannon trailer load at a time, over several weeks.

Nice work The Wood Wolverine. I'll start my migration now Labor day has passed. Of course if you're bored now, you're more than welcome to travel a little east and do it for me. Since you have experience. :D

Oh man. I love the entire process of burning wood except after throwing in the basement. That walk/carry over totally the furnace room sucks. My hands still ache.

Had about a half cord of hackberry rounds in the dump trailer that I needed to get split and stacked this past weekend. Took me two days to get it done, working between rain showers. Decided I might as well haul a load up to the woodshed at the house since I already had the trailer hooked up to the cub cadet. Pulled up to the shed, opened the door and got swarmed immediately by yellow jackets. Not sure how I got out of there without being stung, but I bet it would have been funny to watch on video. Anyway, waited for the little suckers to go to bed then hosed em down with wasp and hornet killer. Must have got them all. Got the load stacked in the shed with no issues tonight.
