    Gas or diesel?
I thought you had diesels...which would have glow plugs, not spark plugs...and glow plugs only need changed when they die, not at a regular interval like spark plugs, as they only operate for seconds upon startup, not the whole time the engine is running

Well.... I would like to think the man didn't buy spark plugs for an engine he didn't own.

If he's got a 6.6 with glow plugs and it's still starting, I think id just use a block heater when it gets cold? Touching those glow plugs at 300k miles is surely asking for it.

I'd attempt glow plugs on a 300k diesel well before trying original plugs on a 300k modern gasser (read: aluminum heads)

The last glow plugs I messed with didn't go well. They were in a pro master on a 4 cylinder 3.0l, less than 100k miles and still under warranty. It got a new cylinder head, injectors, cylinder head cover and various other parts after a glow plug broke off. Injectors were stuck and the factory special tool wouldn't touch em. So out came the blue tipped wrench. All of that was after the engine was removed from the vehicle.....

Usually spark plugs don't last much over 100k miles before they're worn out or start misfiring sometime. 300k is something else!

Hey buZZsaw BRAD, I can see your house from up here!

Well sort of. Used to be able to clearly see my parents house from here too, but the trees have grown and completely block it.

    Warning, novel ahead!
So I bought a Kawasaki Bayou 220 4 wheeler for my son a couple years ago, it wasn't perfect, but wasn't supposed to be a project either. Life got in the way and I'm just now getting it done :headbang:
So first of all, the lil punk I bought it off of pulled one over on me, and second, this being the first Kawi that I've personally owned...I'm not impressed.

So for anyone that cares, the earlier 220s had an 8 pole 2 phase stator for charging, somewhere in the mid 90s they switched to a more common 18 pole 3 phase system. The one I bought was supposedly a 2001.
It had an oil leak from the stator cover so I pulled it and installed a new gasket...the old one had obviously been messed with, but not replaced...I noticed it had a new aftermarket (Chinese) stator in it, so I guessed that's why the cover was pulled.

It had a bad exhaust leak, I knew that when I bought it, but I ended up having to remove the engine to get the broken exhaust stud out. Good thing I did, because turns out half the motor mount bolts were gone...and I also realized that the transmission output shaft seal was gone too.
It was becoming apparent that the kid had pulled the motor at some point, probably recently...wonder why?
While it was out I set the valve clearance too...that was actually pretty close to right.
When I got it back together it was finally quiet enough that I could hear the engine knock for the first time :picard:
After riding it for a bit I also found out it was not charging the battery.
After some testing I could not find anything faulty with the charging system...so I decided to replace the Chinese stator with a known good/tested used OEM stator...so off comes the cover, again.
Still doesn't charge though, and I've checked this thing over 6 ways to Sunday! Now I'm getting frustrated! :hair:
After way too much time reading Kawi forums I finally stumble across someone that had a similar issue and they talked about the 2 different stators over the years and the fact that you had to have the correct flywheel to match...hmm!
Said the old ones had 8 magnets, the newer ones 12...I then contacted a well known stator rewinding service and they confirmed that the flywheel had to match the stator, as far as poles vs magnets to charge properly.
Sure enough, after removing the cover, yet again, I had an older 8 magnet flywheel with a newer 18 pole stator!
At this point I'm finally putting all the pieces together, this kid put an older engine in for some reason and just swapped the stator covers so that it would plug directly into the 2001 wiring harness...when it didn't charge he bought a new Chinese stator...when it still didn't charge, he sold it to me! (the little fart ghosted me then too BTW)
I found a good used 12 magnet flywheel for it and got it installed today (after having to buy a puller too, never owned a M30 x 1.5 female puller before) but good news is that it charges now!
Took it for a little spin down the bike trail that is being built nearby, it rides ok, good enough for an intermediate bike for the boy...it does have an engine knock, but nothing I can't live with for now, I'm tired of fooling with it! From reading about these things it sounds like it's not that uncommon for this engine to knock/rattle...so if/when it blows up, I'll rebuild it then! It can't be too bad, compression tested over 180 lbs, and oil filter cartridge looked fairly clean.
Bottom line though, I should have stuck with Honda or Yamaha, they have done well for me over the years, and I've owned MANY!

Last week they started a 5 year project to replace the one and only major interstate viaduct in the center of the area. 3 major bridges and a bunch of access overpasses. Although they plan to keep traffic moving through the construction area speeds will be turtle-like. The "alternate route" include one that takes you 8 miles out of your way and another that takes you over a swing bridge that constantly breaks down and/or opens for marine traffic all day long. Despite an obvious need to upgrade this part of the interstate from two to three lanes they are NOT upgrading so even when it is finished it will still have the same gridlock problems it does today.
Any of the Cape Cod visitors from points west traveling up 95 and then 195 bring extra water and food for the delays at the missing George Washington bridge in Providence and then the missing overpasses in New Bedford.

Good idea, but it was an hours drive and pretty much bare dirt with junk cars sitting all over...that should have been a clue for me!
