My son has a Jonsered 2258, I believe a 2015 production year saw. He took it to our dealer a while back because the chain would become very loose right after tightening it. They replaced the bar, chain (Stihl chain), needle bear and I believe the sprocket.

It does the same thing. It comes loose pretty much as soon as you start cutting with it. I took the side cover off. Cleaned everything up, put it back together, it came loose as soon as I started gutting? Anyone have any issues with this or a similar saw?

    Thanks, NYH1.

Pulling up on the bar before tightening bar nuts, and making them really tight? After tensioning, the nuts are keeping the chain taught so if the bar is slipping, that would be related to tightness. There's no type of lubrication on the studs?
Can you confirm the rim sprocket is new with a pic?

Bar stud have an actual shoulder on the bottom that the bar sits on? Could the nuts be bottoming out on the threads of the studs before it fully clamps on the bar?
    Just a thought..............

I'll try to get one later. My grandson (5) is coming over and he loves working on stuff.

    Thanks, NYH1.

Can we see a pic of the loose chain on the saw (I run mine a bit tight, so 'loose' is subjective)?

Sometimes if not careful I find that I don't quite get the chain 'seated' in the sprock before tightening down and experience what you are describing. At least I assume that's my folly and why occassionally I will have to retighten just after a chain swap. I usually try to spin the chain a bit before clamping to make sure everything is GTG. Sometimes I must forget. Outboard clutches with rims can sometimes challenge me to get everything in place initially.

I too spin the chain every time. I take my scrench and push the backside of a cutter several times somewhat fast. All it took was a couple times of the drivers not in the rim right to change my habits.

I had that problem before, when I talked to a logger, he suggested putting a piece of wood under the bar nose so that it is supported when you adjust your chain and tighten the bar nuts, problem solved

Sorry guys got busy doing a few other things the last couple days. We're getting our pole barn ready for the electricians to run the electrical service Monday morning.

I'll get a few pic's this weekend. Probably won't be running it this weekend though.

    Thanks, NYH1.

I used to have a 272xp that had this issue. Replaced everything to do with the tensioner, and the bar studs. Problem solved.

Thanks for everyone's input so far, I really appreciate it. Been super busy. It's supposed to be like 62° and rain all day tomorrow. So, I'm gonna smoke a couple racks of ribs in the pole barn. I'll mess with saws and stuff while cooking. I'll get some pic's of the sprocket.

We're in the Minoa/Bridgeport area. About 15 minutes from Eastwood.

This is after tightening the chain and then running it for two minutes or so.

These are the best pic's I can get of the sprocket without removing the clutch. It's only been ran a half hour or so since they replaced it.

Did you try placing a block of wood under the bar nose to support it, while you adjusted the tension and tightened the bar nuts?

That made a real difference in my experience

    Sprocket looks great
If you are running an Oregon chain they will slack up probably 5 times before they are done stretching
For that reason is why I stopped running them
