Husband bought a buiding for his business, enough sq/ft to make a home inside part of it. We are seeking City approval to just do that. It's a "dual zone" neighborhood, both residential and commercial, (mostly residential). His building is one of the commercial properties grandfathered in after zoning changed way back when. He hired a lady that works with all the engineers to help, and she obtained a "recommendation of approval" by one Commissioner before the meeting. Seems approval is 4 step process. Yesterday afternoon WWW's proposal went before the Building Commission. Unanimouse Approval! We have that now for the City Council. Steps 2-4 are 3 more City Council meetings, they are who makes the final decision. They meet the second Tuesday of each month, I hope we get on the Sept. meeting Agenda.
It passed!! "Motion Carries"!! What I didn't know yesterday was they are not the final decision maker.....
LOL, I truely hope I get that honor! And we pay for water, $1.25 per load For real though, I'll gladly pay a water bill to save WWW hauling water ~3 times a week, 45 minutes per trip for 11 years, in all kinds of icy freezing weather.
What a let down Stinny , I'm pretty bummed out. I didn't know. He talks about his pre-meeting, but I thought that was for the final decision. It wasn't, all this time he was saying the Building Commission is "pre-meeting" for City Council.
We don't know for sure but all ducks are in their rows so far. There are some "interesting" people on the city council. (I'm used to the County Commissioner out here). Another man was turned down by City Council for something similar a year ago, ours is different in a few aspects like no exterior changes or additions to the building, but the proposal they came up with for us is amending code for zones like ours. Anyway the Building Commissioners seemed excited for the other guy too, that he could work within the amended building code. Also, moving along the Citie's long term vision for our neighborhood to eventually be all residential.
I hope you get approval! City Councils can attract people with odd points of view. Never know how they will go. You did everything right with the County approvals. I envy the morning commute when you finally move in. Hit the coffee pot and hang a left LOL
Thank you Husband says he/we will stay out here summers. Lol, I've had enough years out here, I can't tell you how much I'd like thermostat, tap water, a wood deck and small patch of lawn. And the windbreak from all the homes/buildings in town.
Not that I know anything about the prospective area, but it seems to be happening everywhere… people are either getting dumber or more distracted and also more self-serving/entitled/whatever… are y’all ready for that? The potential of a crappy neighbor? There’s a lot to consider when living in a confined space, like town. Trust me and many of us- increase the population around you and you find out real fast.
Fortunately it's a quiet neighborhhod, top left 1/4 of the building. If it happens that we get in will be a culture shock for sure! I rarely even see neighbors out here. Good news is there will only be one neighbor, WWW's worked there a few years so he knows him (tan roof to the north). He needs to keep in line though because he's using our storm water drain that goes under the sidewalk, leverage lol. And there's a ~6' concrete block wall across the north wall. The building buts up to the sidewalk where our bedrooms windows are, that already weirds me out lol. But, the "yard" is a courtyard, almost total privacy. The gray roof to the south already complained when WWW put the new sign up, the authorities said it's within code, nothing since. The lot to the west (I was hoping WWW could buy that too, same owners as our building, but nope) was supposed be developed for townhomes, but they quit working on it over a year ago and have not been back. There is a handicap spot directly infront of our front door, so parking shouldn't be a problem, and could park in the courtyard alley if needed.
That's going to be a big change. It looks like you can keep to yourself if you want to. I know what it's like going from the sticks to town. We moved near Folsom so our autistic son could get more services. We never really fit in when living in town. The people are different, more self centered and less caring about anyone else because there are too many people to worry about. After seven years we moved back to the country but only 30min from work this time! Our place today is the perfect mix for us. We know everyone along our road. We keep in touch and everyone is there for each other when needed, though we are all pretty self sufficient as well. We are 20min away from shopping, we have well water, power, solar, propane, hvac. We heat with wood as a choice but can turn on the heat in the house if we want. On my days off I like to work on the house, work on the pickup with my youngest son, work on firewood and other projects around the property, work in the garden, tend the animals. City folks just didn't understand why I would want that. I hope this works out for you! It sounds like you are ready for some of the creature comforts. I get that. This could be perfect for both of you. I would turn that courtyard into my personal oasis!
