I said it before I'll say it again. If I had to choose only 1 wood, it would be cherry. I'de sacrifice btu's for that smell any day.
I'd take the smell of white oak over cherry....and the Btu's They both have their place in the smoker for different meats.
How much wood you think you've hauled in that wagon? I'd ask the wife for a bigger trailer for Christmas if I were you! Although, I suppose I wouldn't mind making a couple extra trips through your woodlands, especially this time of year..
Nice work woods! I'd actually trade you some oak for cherry. I have 1 cherry that I need to gibir. It's cut, but hung up in strong vines. I need to get my strap back there to pull it down since mother nature is taking her good old time!
I'll take that deal! I got a monster standing dead one, too crooked to use for lumber. Probably a generous cord in that one.
Zap, sorry I haven't been keeping up with your progress. What have you got left to pickup out in the field?
Getting some nice colors in the woods Zap. Looking like Fall is close Cherry is always a good wood to add to the stacks !
I stacked the load from yesterday then went back in for two more loads that I stacked, it was a perfect afternoon for it. I had planned to bring out a third load but my neighbor gave me a yelp when I was coming out of the woods with the second load, I drove over so we could flap the gums for a good 45 minutes.
I still have some Pine that needs splitting, the Maple on the hill that this Cherry came from, another load of Cherry in a different area, more Maple up top and some rounds I cut up from the trail clearing after the ice storm. We have a chit load of Cherry at the house that needs stacking too. I'll start going after some of that Maple that was near the trail I cleared Sunday.
I'm not sure how much but it's perfect for the trails coming down the hills, once I get the trail around the house to the stacks wider, I'll be using the truck. If you get a bigger trailer it would work nice on the lower part of our property but coming down the hill from up top would be tough.
