Back in Feb, I needed some more wood and pulled from my stacks and created a hole in my privacy fence. Nothing worse than an incomplete stack! Been bugging me ever since. So 2 weekends ago, I decided to do something about it. First order of business was to lay down my new primo pallets. Had a small tumble that I didn’t take pics of. All my fault. New plastic down and I unloaded one trailer. Had to take several breaks. Felt like heat exhaustion that day. It was swealtering. Got back to it yesterday, 2 trailer loads. Then this evening I finished up. Much better. This was all chestnut oak from my honey hole. Didn’t have the space in my stacks so it got put beside my driveway March ‘24.
Best fence ever , even the "pup" looks like he approves. Maybe I should do that for our two knuckleheads.
Good job The Wood Wolverine and hats off to anyone who works firewood in the heat. I have about a cord of rounds that I have glanced at a few times but not pressing enough in the heat.

We got a slight break in the super high temps. That first day though was brutal. I wasn’t planning on doing much but the slight tumble made the job last longer than I wanted. 60+ feet of it.
I have zero wood staged for processing. It’s just been too hot. The wood I just moved was clogging up that area too. I do have some over at my parents that I’m itching to get split because he’ll likely burn it 26/27. Will have to split it small.
I'm waiting for the heat to head out. Got a few good prospects lying in the woods right now. The heat and mostly the bugs right now are keeping me from it. I can't recall a year with the skeeters and horse flies so rampant. I use spray but they don't seem to care. It's like a feeding frenzy as soon as I step out of the buggy. The thermocel will keep them at bay but I only use it when I'm going to be stationary. Not seen skeeters this aggressive since I was in the little bighorn range 15 years ago.
we have deer flies. I’ve calculated over the years they travel up to 25mph depending on how hungry they are. Drove through a swampy area in the forest once while not wearing a hat. Drop lower than 25 on the atv and I could feel them trying to land on my bald spot. They were exceptionally hungry, chased me all the way home, about three miles Friggin things are murder.
Always some good looking stacks there at your place buddy! I've been plugging away also, refilling what I used up last season. Almost finished...... But I'll have room on the opposite end of my stacks, so I'm thinking about adding another year's worth (6+/- full cord). We'll see what happens. There's a pile of leftover topsoil in that spot so I gotta do something with it first.
Just measured, my fence is 87’ long. 18 3/4 cords. There’s a 12’ section behind the garage that is 4 splits wide. And with the 4.5 cord stack near my ShelterLogic carport, that’s 23 1/4 total c/s/s. An inch shy of 6’. I end up standing in my trailer to get the extra reach. Most of the way down it’s 7’ tall. One foot of that is a single row on top so the rubber tarp sheds water.
I saw your progress, as always some great stacks. Sure is nice having those plastic pallets ain’t it! I don’t miss that rotten wood mess one bit. Not wanting to “loose” more floor space, I decided to make my stacks taller. Cutting at 21” and going 2 wide seems stable enough. Only issue I had is the newer spots tend to let the pallets sink in a bit from all that weight. Maybe I’ll have some stones next time they’re empty to level them back up.
Good work Jason. These cooler temps the last couple days in our area are a nice tease of what's ahead, but next week looks like a hot one.
