I’ve only burned black locust once. Neighbour took a small one down and I blocked it up and grabbed the rounds. It is rather rare to find serious hardwood for burning here. Although, there is an abundance of heavily-pruned fruitwood for some with orchards. That locust burned like apple. Easy to make a stovetop glow if you stuff it and then forget to throw the damper after a few minutes. Didn’t like cutting it up though. I remember it bothering me more than cedar.

It don't get any better than an 044 ! I cut timber with 3, of mine . Great saws for smallish timber . I ran 32" bars on mine most of the time . But did cut quite a bit with the 34" Sugi Hara . Fell the biggest yellow cedar i ever fell with one . 96" across the stump. But know guys that have ran 36s on theirs. A 30" light weight bar would be perfect on them .

The large CounterVibe saws are super hard to find in BC. I’ve been looking for years. I know there were fallers on the Island that ran them in the 70’s and early 80’s, but there were not many. That 4400 came from Nanaimo. Lots of 3400’s in the Canadian Tire branding and quite a few of the later 3000’s and 3xx series. I really enjoy running my 3000’s. Performance on par with 026/260’s and better ergonomics IMO. Funny that there are lots of 5200/5400 south in Washington but none across the border. The opposite with the Canadian Homelite XL-76/130’s. Terry Industries sold 1000’s of them here.

Dug out a couple of old grunts this AM in preparation for a drive later this week. They’ve been sitting for a spell, but are ready to rip again. Always liked the balance and pull of the P-series.

Had this one apart and back together in the last week as well. All new plumbing and boot has it running well. Probably won’t see much action though. Lived a really easy life.

I've yet to have an issue with the flip caps on stihl saws but, I know many HATE them. Here is a fix for that. I saw these in a YouTube saw vid last night. I've purchased several proline parts from this company and all have been excellent quality. If I ever need a replacement cap for a stihl, I'll buy these with confidence.

Nice to know. I’ve only had a couple of times when due to user error the cap didn’t seat properly and I wore the fuel on my pants the rest of the day. Since then I double check after filling fuel and oil and no issues.

I think the biggest issue is exactly that...user error. A buddy of mine said today that stihl should put a disclaimer in the manual. If you can't properly operate the tank caps, you shouldn't run a saw. Lol.

Ya, flippy caps just take some getting used to . But . Over the decades of loggin , tree thinning and falling timber. I've had to replace probable 8 or 10 fuel and oil caps that died . But I've only had to replace 1 Stihl flippy cap . And thats because the tank got smashed on that 460 . And probably 30% of my cutting has been with flippy cap Stihls. No strain , no digging out a bar wrench to beat on or twist . I really like the flip caps on the 5 series Huskys.
And yes I've dumped gallons of bar oil down the front of my chaps and cutting pants because I didn't get the oil cap on just right .
But , I've done that plenty with old fashion caps .

Heck, I was so exited a ported saw showed up at my door that I forgot to put the bar oil cap in after filling. The garage floor and the front of me were a mess. Lol

Oh ya ! . I've, and every cutter I know has had so much on their mind at 1 time or other we've forgot 1 or in my case BOTH caps . Not fun when it's the first tank of the day ! Especially when ide packed in just the amount I would burn in 6.5 hours of bushlin.

With me it was mostly not getting the threads mated up . Then flipping them down when I THOUGHT they were on right . But not actually paying attention and doing it correctly .

I will say, I prefer the caps on the 572 and 565 Huskys .
When compared to the fuel and oil caps on my 455 Poulan Pro. (Which burns like twice the fuel the 565 does )

More or less the same here. Didn't word it correctly. Sometimes it gives the normal resistance but isn't locked in and out it comes! Same here not paying full attention.
