    Good reasons I guess!

Always good to have a buddy boat heading offshore.

We all have to do what we have to do...cruising on the lake, I would prefer to have my friends with me. To each his own!

So yesterday, we were coming back from hanging out in another bay, one with probably around 100 boats. Some guy in a boat similar to mine in length, and an I/O, but with a lot of checkered flag graphics on his white boat, attempted to pass me. So I pegged the throttle. It appears that all those checkered flag graphics didn't add speed, because I walked right past him. TBH, the hull on my boat is known to be faster than most. I just thought it was funny. Also, after talking with my buddy, trim tabs wouldn't do anything for top speed, but they are helpful due other things, especially when it gets rough out.

Gotta pull out today. I hate that. I'll get some more pics. I know my wife took many.

Trim tabs aren’t likely to make a dramatic difference in top speed, is your boat an I/O or direct drive, or V-Drive?

If it’s an I/O, it should have power tilt/trim, and tabs aren’t likely to give you much if any more bow pitch control. Where you would likely see the difference with trim tabs is Port/Starboard trim control leveling the boat side to side, if there are more people or gear weight to one side than the other, trim tabs will “Trim” that up

Trimming bow attitude can affect top speed and fuel economy, with our Beachcraft after we’re on plane, with the throttle set, I can adjust the power trim and feel a difference in the boat’s speed, and see the RPM’s increase, as I find the optimal trim setting, which either gets me a better top speed, or allows the same cruising speed at a lower RPM, which gives better fuel efficiency

I started reading this section and my mind immediately went to our Beachcraft airplanes we once had. So it took me a second reading through to realize you were talking about a boat.

Doug, the Larson is an I/O. Volvo penta 5.7 multi port EFI duoprop. The duoprop is great for a lot of things, but over much over 50 mph is actually a hindrance to top speed. Then you want the single prop.

Trim tabs help significantly in rough water, and they help also with the side to side level when needed.

It was really nice to drop in once and then pull out at the end of the weekend. So simple. Yes, it wasn't inexpensive, but it sure was nice and made our vacation much more relaxing.

    Nope, our Beachcraft doesn’t fly
    IMG_4111.jpeg

While I don’t know a lot about aircraft, I have heard of Beachcraft airplanes, and IIRC, the Beachcraft Bonanza is a low wing, with a V-Tail.

Yes it is but ours were a lot smaller than that. We had two - both low wing, four seaters with smaller engines. One was called a Musketeer (165 hp) and the other a Sundowner (180 hp). The Sundowner, at one time, was the line of airplanes the US military used to teach aerobatics to their crews.

The attack start tomorrow, 16 days of as much fishing as the ocean will allow. Been working 7 - 16’s since the 28th last month building up and saving time for this. Tuna, salmon, halibut and rockfish all on the menu with a focus on salmon. Fresh new flag ready to lead the way, boat’s tuned and ready, crab pots baited and ready, gears tied up and sharp, push off the beach an hour before sunrise. Hopefully plenty of pictures to come over the next couple weeks.

    Fish on Hoarders.

Had a fine young lady fish with us today. A friend’s niece had never been on the ocean before, never caught anything bigger than a stocker trout before. I think the smile all day said she had a good time.

We went out on the small inland lake we like to go to yesterday. Today was a nice day as well, but I have ribs to cook and we had to get the other stuff done as well. Plenty of days left to get the more lake days in before it gets actually cold.

Yes it is. Seems to be the favored fish around our area with halibut a close second.

I unplugged for a couple days, it’s nice to leaving the leash in the truck and just go like we used to do, be home when the streetlights come on. No rhyme or reason to the pictures, I’m all out of synch.

Gonna test run and try do a video thing. Good thing there’s a couple kids here. No clue how this is going to work but by golly we’re going to send’er.

When you first see the whales they’re about 15’ out, second time they’re bumping into each other and maybe 6’ out with a tail slap at the end. We think Fin or Minke

What a day to work a half day on. It was 84° and basically no wind. The water temperature rose up a bit in the last few days. It was one of those epic the of summer days. PXL_20250917_181618079.MP.jpg

Lightening storm came through and sent me back to work. Probably not a bad thing since the waters hot, jellyfish are bad making fishing scratch at best. Photos are from our super awesome fleet picture lady, PCphotolady.
