8.7 earthquake hit off the coast of Russia, north east of Japan and has triggered a tsunami warning for parts of Alaska and a watch for Hawaii and the west coast of the US.
With you living on an island out there, my first thought went to your safety. I am glad I was concerned for nothing.
Unfortunately I don't think we have seen the last of this for Alaska right now. There is a lot of pressure built up there and the Aleutian Arc, I would bet there will be around a magnitude 8 coming imminently and a good chance off-shore and shallow (high tsunami risk). Stay prepared if you are there.
I got the tsunami warning on my phone. I’m 350ish miles inland and 2 mountain ranges between me and the ocean.
Should have said I live 350ish miles from the ocean. I’m about to splash the boat and fish for king’s and coho’s in just a bit. Want the fog to lift a bit. Have a radar but I like to see the water surface for and trees/limbs that wash in. Always a nice little debris field.
We are fishing Valdez, none of the locals are talking about it. Must have been minimal here. Lots of islands and a narrow pass that protects this area.
