Mowed the field over the weekend, 8 acres worth of tall grass 7’ at a pass. It was thick and had to go slow, I waited longer than normal to keep the wife happy. She likes seeing the fawns and deer hanging out in the grass. Happy wife, happy life, next year I’ll go back to June and August mowings. IMG_6099.jpeg IMG_6100.jpeg IMG_6101.jpeg IMG_6102.jpeg

Yeah no, that ain’t happening, grew up doing hay at the family farm. Our neighbor has 200 acres of fields that they bale for the cows they have.

Spent the day grinding some stumps, didn’t get to them all as I had to stop and pick blueberries this afternoon as the bushes were loaded again.

Focused on the oak that was planted, not sure what type it is. I cut the tree down this winter, and processed it into firewood. Took 45 minutes or so from cutting the stump to done.

Then moved onto a triple trunk cherry stump. Cut the tree this winter as well, it was shading our old pear tree, and previous owners allowed it to get big. It took an hour to grind it down, but smelled really nice. IMG_6113.jpeg IMG_6114.jpeg

Moved onto this big pine stump and smaller black cherry stump. Didn’t get them finished, but will finish them up in the morning. Oh and a pic of the 4th picking of our 20 blueberry bushes.

Nice work and beautiful blueberries. We had a heavy crop this year too.

How do you like that stump grinder? We're thinking of getting one, debating between the straight type or the swing type.

Our crop is ridiculous this year, glad to hear it’s not just ours going nuts.

As for the stump grinder, I like it it’s ground several hundred stumps in the last few years. Got into some rocks by a couple stumps and had to replace some teeth for the first time. With the 40 pto hp and a top and tilt kit on the tractor it makes quick work of a stump. I’ve never tried one that’s mounted the other way and swings with hydraulics. They cost a lot more than the type I have, and I got mine used for about half the cost of a new one. It’s earned its keep on the stumps I don’t want to dig out with the mini ex.

Finished up the last of the stump grinding before the wife got back from her mini vacation. I’ll let the ground settle a bit and then hand rake it, seed it, and call it good. IMG_6130.jpeg

Be careful mowing...seems like the ground bees are getting an early start this year. I was mowing Sunday and hit a paper nest the size of a football. Didn't even know I hit it until I came back around on another pass. Somehow I didn't get a single sting. Could have been bad.

Spent some time in the mini excavator with the ac on while it was hot and humid. Made some progress on clearing the last section of the field, wow do poplar sprouts grow fast! Dug up some good sized stumps, found some rocks and made lots of piles of brush/slash.

Morning progress, forgot to take before pics.

Lunch break, and made a path to the existing field.

Had to relocate a load of huge white oak rounds on the woodyard to make room for more totes. L4802 and Catawba grapple were up to the task... 20250728_094719.jpg
This one should be fun to process... 20250728_100803.jpg
