I don't know what's up with our feeder but they are emptying it faster than usual. More needed for offspring? The offspring now coming to the feeder?

Local feed store closing so maybe I'll stock up.

Probably that and perhaps racoon, possum, or young squirrels maybe. I see a couple of young squirrels around now that weren't here a couple of weeks ago.

Feeder is critter proofed with a baffle. Once in a while I will see a squirrel or chipmunk try and climb up.
Chipmunks are a constant and squirrels come and go.

Ms. buZZsaw snapped these yesterday of bluejays trying to stay cool. I've seen birds do this before. Record highs around 100* here. 20250624_120916 (1).jpg 20250624_120923.jpg 20250624_120916.jpg

I observed a bluejay doing that again today. Turns out to be a juvenile that was begging. IMG_7563.JPG I happened to get it with a chipmunk and squirrel together. I was watching to see its reaction to the critters. IMG_7562.JPG

Finally got a pic of this neat looker yesterday. It comes to be curious when I'm up at the fort. The red on him is so vibrant in person.

Neither of us have seen any hummingbird activity since these sightings. Over a month. Must have been passing through?

We see an occasional one maybe once a week if lucky. She took the feeder down last week. The seed feeder is always a bustle of activity.

I see more woodpeckers than hummingbirds at the nectar feeders. Very unusual. I'll leave the nectar feeders out, as I do see the occasional hummingbird.

I took the feeder down this morning, so of course one buzzes the porch this afternoon. 3 sightings in 2 months doesn't warrant reactivating the feeder. We have red flowers in front of the porch and have seen hummingbirds feeding from them in past years. Not this year. I don't know what happened.

Last year that was a problem with our old hummingbird feeder. The new one is bee and other bird proof. I did see them attempt to feed but it does work.

I picked up a bottle type. Haven't seen any birds at it yet. Strange year with few hummingbirds.
