Nope it’s things cost them more so it gets passed on, look at echo they were cheap few years ago now they cost same as Stihl or husky.

Not sure how the clone saws affects stihls part prices and drives them up, I was just say all global parts have risen in cost for various reasons so stihl’s been increasing costs just like husky and echo. The clones or clone parts have zero to do with stihl directly since despite what some people claim stihl’s not buying clone parts to build saws or anything else.

 

Think of it like a business. The parts cost to stihl is one input, then they apply a profit margin. Lets assume the corporate overhead cost is fixed, the cost to keep the lights on. If you sell more parts then you can pay for the overhead with a smaller profit margin even if the raw parts cost goes up. If you sell less parts, or saws, then you need to make more profit on each sale to pay for the overhead. In other words, as a company sells less parts they need make more money on each sale to stay in business.

So yes, competition always has something to do a company's price structure.

Maybe to make it even simpler is a supply and demand theory. More equivalent saws on the market means each saw is worth less. Especially if the new saws are much cheaper. For stihl to increase prices in an oversupply environment can be a death spiral. They have to be much better to differentiate themselves and have the slighest chance of survival.

 

That would be assuming a clone is equal which it isn’t, can’t say all the 400$ equivalent saws is dropping stihls value. Stihl makes a lot of their own parts in house it’s more of added costs to them shipping between countries and just labor and materials going up.

I had a local guy tell me the other day that echo was just as expensive as stihl. Lol. They have went up in price like everything has but they aren't as expensive.

 

Some are some aren’t close depends on model of saw the 7310 is pretty close to the 572 and 462 if you go by list prices. I do realize dealers can and do give discounts but not all do.

It takes 5 min to add captive bar nuts to a 4910. Now that ms261's and 550's are pushing $800, I would absolutely buy either the Echo 4910 or 501p and have it ported. They aren't quite as strong as a good 346xp when ported, but they also are closer in weight to an ms241 or 543xp.

Then there is the 25-35cc top handle saws and their rear handle variants. You can almost buy 2 Echo cs355T saws for the cost of one 201T. I've owned a 201 and they aren't nowhere near worth the extra cost in my experience / opinion. Same with the 2511 vs a 151.
