I will gladly take crooked cuts vs a stump that’s 5 feet across.

I waved the white flag today just before noon. I could work more if I had to but there’s no boss cracking a whip.

Put a good dent in the tree service pile. I got all of the larger silver maple cut up today, probably 3 cords or so. I then cut this one beech log. Diameter was 18” on the small end and 24” on the big end. Was a heavy log for sure. As I picked through the pile, I put the Goldilocks logs in their own pile as they will get cut for the I&O splitter since it doesn’t have the log lift. Not a whole lot of big wood left. If nothing else gets dropped off, I will have this all cut up by Sunday.

Been a good couple days after the heat wave to cut. Is it often you get close to the end of log inventory or run out?

It was still hot here yesterday. We topped out right around 90 and very humid. By nightfall though it was in the 60’s. Today was low 60’s to start and low 70’s for a high. Thick clouds. Almost felt chilly.
I usually don’t run this low on logs especially this early in the summer. Not worried though. I have some feelers out and my one log guy is saying he can bring something this coming week.

Got all the larger diameter wood cut this morning. There was more there than I thought. Came across this very large sassafras. 28” in diameter on the big end and 22” on the small end. Also pictured was the next log which tapered down to 18”. Had to be massive sass. Got one full bin of boiler wood from those tree service logs. Put it under cover until it’s needed.

Interesting! Around here a big sassafrass is 10", maybe 12". And I don't see near as many of them, of any size, as I used to. When I was a kid they were common fence row and edge trees, but most folks clean and spray their fence rows these days.

If my memory serves me correctly, this is the second biggest sassafras I’ve encountered.

It’s all cut. Everything. Place looks weird. My semi truck log guy was supposed to deliver a load this afternoon it cancelled on me because one of his guys supposedly didn’t show up. Now scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Haha. I decided to do mulch at moms today. Logs rolled in just after I finished up.

And the logs have arrived. There’s some oak logs in here bigger than I’d like but I will take anything at this point. The best part about this delivery is about 1/3 of it is cherry!

Got a fair amount of wood split this week in between the heat, humidity, and storms. Blew a hydraulic hose on the iron and oak on Tuesday and then a hydraulic fitting on the log lift of the TW6 today. Both breakdowns only cost me a couple hours and $95 total. More of a pita than anything else but it happens. Will work on cutting logs tomorrow and the rest of the weekend. Don’t think I will have any helpers working until Monday.

Breakdowns are a pain but part of the process.

Thought you were out of logs to cut? Get a delivery this week?

What’s left from the semi truck last week…just the cherry. The single pile is the most updated mixed hardwood and the double piles are both oak. All 3 are still growing but the oak piles are almost done.

Will you just start another row of oak/mixed once it fills up/ends? How is the inventory building? Are you pleased with inventory so far?

I already have 3 other oak piles in the various stages of making. Wasn’t exactly planned that way but sometimes it just makes sense in the moment. I’m up over 300 now. Have a ways to go still.
