The nice body is all cleaned. Most of the chrome is in good shape. I'll still put all the new on it and use the removed chrome on the beat up body.
This is broken. That steering servo mounts to it and its definitely a high stress part. I have a plan for that. Aluminum.
As it sets now until I get the servo mount copied out of aluminum and I order the dual motor electronic speed control I need. Not much more to do on it till then. I do need to clean up the front chrome bumper and mount it. Unfortunatel there wasn'ta new one in the bag. I pay paint.
The old radio and servos work! It was glitching a bit however. Upon closer inspection, after the vid, I found a bare power wire on the switch harness. I swapped the harness and glitch is gone. https://photos.app.goo.gl/aBRjf4fZkJrhyQBh9
This is another project I have to finish. I got it from my local online auction. Water cooled brushless motor. Pro boat is the brand.
Thanks bud. Because it won't be driven much, more to show her off once in awhile, I'm ordering a cheap hobby wing brushed esc for twin motors and a 4200 miliamp NiMH battery.
About 30 years ago I built a helicopter. Was expensive and time consuming and when it was finished I was so overwhelmed and terrified to try and fly it so it sat on a shelf. Was sold a few years later.
I have a bunch of previous rc pics to share. I'll trickle them in here and there. The ones I don't have pics of, I'll find online pics for.
They are extremely tough to fly. Nowadays you can buy GPS enabled helicopters that will practically fly themselves in beginner mode. That's exactly what I need because I failed at it in the past even after months on a simulator. I didn't want to put in anymore time in learning it back then so down the road it went.
I was into planes for a while and still have them but just being a car guy as much fun as they were it just wasn't for me. Plus the field was part of an RC plane club , and you know how that club mentality is. There is always one guy who thinks his poop smells like roses and the small groups within the club that can never seem to get along. The best thing is the field is less than 2 miles down the road so I used to stay away on weekends and go down on weeknights when the place was empty. I might go back someday.
