Was taught, if something is gonna fall on the bucket, to squat low/wide and get your arms under the top bar up to your elbows, to hold yourself down, like doing a curl. Hopefully I'll never have to try it out.
Sure that might work if you even see it coming. Stuff happens unbelievably fast in tree work and typically we’re talking thousands of pound of kinetic force. I’ll stop mucking up the thread now though.
Got off Tuesday morning, friend about 5 miles from home had asked us about dropping a dead pine next to his small pond. When we got there, he showed us another tree he wanted down as well...and it was a nice bonus tree... Plant app says Sand Post Oak... Got the trunk logs and 1 big limb, left the other limbs for his firepit Cut the stump high, so he wanted a seat cut facing the firepit. I sat and thought about it... Our friend, Shane, trying it out Then we dropped the pine... Headed thru the gate opening... And got hung up on some smaller trees... Slow and careful, pieced it down... Finally rolled off tree, safely on the ground
LOL!!! I agree. Mebbe he was the model for this? We need to take up a collection and we'll have a FHC version cast in bronze!
When I first saw this picture I thought "Jeff...Seriously? Taking a whizz??" Then I saw the chainsaw bar and realized you must have just been sizing up the fall of the tree.
Lady was needing someone to clean up a storm damage pine. She also had some beetle killed trees she decided to take down while we were there... Dead/dying trees... 1st load from the big pine We were able to drop the dead pine beside the driveway Got the dead pine and rest of big pine on 2nd load Found a few more with beetles in them, took them out too. 8 trees total for the job They had a place on a hill for us to dump debris A few hours work...
I see you're putting the Godzilla to work. Almost purchased one today, but just a little to expensive.
Got a call Tuesday morning from the same friend that we cleaned up a big pecan tree for...https://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/bookmarks/15580/view This time a big oak limb had fallen, she wanted the whole tree taken down, so we tackled that job Wednesday morning. The ugly water oak... The limb took down the service line to the barn, did a bit of damage... Cut the split end off, saw some ants crawling out, off to the burn pile you go... We saved 4 straight pieces, enough to fit between the tires on tractor... Cleaned around the base of the tree, got a pile of briar taters dug up Time to drop the rest...MS461 got the honor XS4910 and XS400 did the rest... We carried the MTL grapple this time, it works great for cleaning up limbs and brush...a pile of limbs headed to the burn pile This was some gnarly wood... She also had a dead oak she wanted dropped while we were there. Had to clean up some big briar vines to get to it... Back cut part of the tree was still solid... There it goes...safely Yes, it was HOT in those chaps, the AC in Godzilla sure felt good when we were done.
ok gotta ask, what exactly is a briar tater? Never heard that one before. Nice work, should I dare ask what the temp is down there?
That is an ugly tree. Dump fodder or going back to your place? Is that the inaugural run for the 400? First time I've seen it in your threads. Your thoughts?
