After changing my diet, I have been looking for alternatives to sugar. Stevia and the other stuff didnt appeal to me, but tonight I sip on coffee fit for a woodsman. I have discovered the taste of Maple syrup in coffee. Maple syrup being the replacement to sugar. Its really good! I have also used honey and that is also really good. Anyway, just thought I would pass it on. I haven't heard of anyone putting these in coffee before. Carry on!
My wife is an eastern maritimes Canadian, so when we travel home for visits we usually bring a gallon of Canadian maple syrup home with us. She uses it a lot to cook with and we use it on ice cream and breakfast food etc. I'm so used to the good stuff that I feel spoiled when we eat out and they dont have any real stuff at the table.
I always put Maple syrup on cottage cheese and the usual response around here is ... Followed by..... And then....
I'll have to give that a shot. I've helped do some sugaring, and for helping received a couple quarts of Maple syrup. I've been using honey in my coffee for quite a while. It's what kickstarted my weight loss. Refined sugar is bad.
Just started using some local honey in my coffee. I really like it and is supposed to help your immune system. Ill have to give maple syrup a try this season
This may help if you are considering changing from cane sugar. The real impotant thing is to avoid artificial sweeteners and use real sugars in moderation:http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/nutrition-pure-maple-syrup-vs-honey-1756.html
Have a buddy who drinks it like that, only reason I know is we used to commute together and I often would be hanging around in his kitchen when he was getting his stuff together. Man, at the price though that's expensive. Even up here in VT near the producers it's $45 a gallon. I did spring for a gallon a couple of weeks ago, but reserve it for the usual suspects, waffles, etc. Must be the penny pinching Scot in me. Although stoves and chainsaws I'll spring for!
I'm alternating putting a tbsp of maple syrup or raw honey in my smoothies each morning. Trying to avoid table sugar and most processed foods.
Put about 1.5 tsp of the syrup in my coffee this a.m......pretty good and a little different than the honey. I'll have another cup or two like that this morning.
Our local raw honey at the farmers market is $7 a pint which equals $56 a gallon I think I'm addicted though.
If your primary use is single does to drinks, either honey or maple syrup is not so bad. There are 768 teaspoons full in each gallon. So if it cost $50 a gallon, then it is six and one half cents a teaspoon. It is when you start cooking with it that it adds up fast.
I cut sugar out of my coffee a few years ago but i'll have to try the syrup idea. I'll let ya know if i make any of those baby faces
