Beech fungus

    I read something a while ago about something taking out beech trees. I was just at a park and every one looked like this. Don’t know if it’s that or the tons of rain

    these were saplings, the mature trees looked the same

    Beech leaf disease, caused by a nematode from Japan I believe.

    Yup as Eric stated. Also a bark fungus that was a problem before the nematode. Its affected a lot of them around here. Sad sight.

    Yep, pretty tired of seeing imported diseases killing off so many of our tree species. I particularly miss the big hemlocks that shaded so many of our mountain streams.

    Double whammy in Souther VT; bark and now leaves. There’s not much of any smooth bark Beech left in the wood around us. Tough to see the leave issue impacting the younger trees now.

    I’m in the woods almost everyday with my dogs and we will come upon these sunnier spots in the woods where the beech trees are. Very sad.
