My tree guy came by this morning. About 2/3 of his truck full, maybe a little less. 19 pieces, Mulberry, Norway and Red Maple and Red Oak. Yard trees, some look a bit knotty, no purple stains in the Oak. I can’t complain about the cost. All laid out by 7:15 am. He thought he had a load of Black Locust for me 2 months ago, but the homeowner decided to keep it, and told him the morning of the job after he had arranged to dump it on me. I was a bit disappointed but this load is fine.
Not a bad load. Does he come at his convenience? Sorry to hear of the BL bust. Id've been bummed too.
Yes and no. It’s at his convenience upon my request. I place the order and at some point he calls and says he’s got a load coming up in the next few days. I think I it ordered in Feb. In the interim I keep my yard clear so I can be ready for the drop when it does come.
I wish I could just get the branches off of those trees. Rescue them before running through chipper. It’s amazing the difference in value and use due to geography. Of course they run most stuff through the chippers up here as well.
Some of what he gave me is on the small side by his standards. It’s quite easy to feed the chipper with his crane. He has a big one, either 16” or 18”. I sure the decision not to chip the smaller logs was a matter of economics. He had me lined up to take a load and there was space on the truck vs. chipping it and paying someone to drive it to the mulch processing place and paying that place to dump it.
I’ve been a bit slow getting this load done. Got three logs left to buck up, one is Mulberry. Maybe 1/3 is split. I split the row in back this afternoon, it’s about 2/3 of a cord. Looking like it’ll come in somewhere under 4 cords in total.
All split, time to see how much it stacks out to. Lawn needs a little fixing. Kind of unavoidable when processing a log load in a suburban yard. Last round being dispatched. Not bad at all on the unsplitables. 5 pieces. Only one crotchety round that basically wouldn’t split all.
