Dog smells are very prevalent here so I found this recipe for washing dog towels etc. 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide 1/2 cup washing soda regular laundry soap Put in the washing machine. Add vinegar to the softener dispenser. It really works.
Is that the one sold as "cleaning" vinegar? If so I'd watch it to make sure it doesn't start eating away at the file. Of course this my non-expert advice as I've never seen a file except handing to husband, but I know the cleaning strength one can be corrosive.
WW, I used to live near a college with a vet school and teaching hospital, I was grateful for the H2O2 and baking soda and a bit of dishwashing liquid on removing skunk smells from fur. As well as I used to use Vinegar and baking soda in my carpet cleaner when we had carpet Jeffrey Svoboda , the vinegar is used in the washing machine not dryer sheets, not sure what kind of machine you have but I have a front loader and different compartments for prewash/wash/bleach/fabric softner. I like prewash with laundry detergent, then baking soda in detergent cup and vinegar in fabric softner compartment. If you have a top loader pour a 1/4 cup or more into "fabric softerner" cup somewhere around the top ring or possibly compartment in the on top in the back. If not throw it all in for wash load.
Ahhh. That makes more sense than throwing vinegar in the dryer like a sheet. I just couldn't figure out how that would work. . Thanks for the explanation.
I could tell, no worries That said do NOT use the 30% acid cleaning vinegar Skier76 mentioned on your clothes Only tools and tile and non porous stuff.
Jeez I grew up acid dipping files. Great depression grandpa skooled me good. Muriatic diluted works better. Muriatic full strength removes aluminum. Ever notice that a clean rusty file cuts pretty good? Here's another old shop trick for ya. Clean the file well and fill the teeth by rubbing chalk on it. Any chalk works, I use the kids colored stuff. This prevents pinning, where the swarf from filing packs in and gets stuck. Really helpful on non ferrous. Try to avoid oil as it causes skipping. I grew up filing machine parts to fit. I try really hard to limit my filing now.
