Been passing this since it was cut last month. Didn't look all that appealing as dead sugar maple is usually punky plus it was typical random length tree service wood. Have a customer looking for semi seasoned/dead wood in volume for the upcoming season so I checked it out and got the okay on Saturday. When I arrived this morning I get out of the truck and suddenly a loud "cock-a-doodle-doo" very close by. Scared the chit out of me. Couple more crows and suddenly the rooster pops out of the undergrowth. I offered it some granola from the truck and next thing I know there's a flock of chickens eating away. Never a dull moment at my cuts! Split the load off the truck. Close to a half cord and at least a face cord of dead stuff. Only a few punky chunks got tossed.into the woods. I left a few really punky chunks behind. Had an audience. An Eastern eyed click beetle "watching" me. All in all a pretty decent load of wood.
Looks good. You work magic to turn that ugly wood into something worth burning LOL. The big question is why do you have granola in your truck? Had a little excitement in my processing area today. The new pup found one of those snakes with the diamond shapes on their backs. She did well anyway, barked from a distance, didn’t get bit.
I have it in case i get hungry and didnt pack a lunch. Either granola or some type of trail mix. First sighting of a rattlesnake there this season? Which reminds me I need to restock on the dog treats!
