Just saw the news that a Rural King store is coming to Spartanburg, SC. Should be opening this fall. Very happy to see this as the only other farm type stores like this here have been Tractor Supply. Should be good for us consumers and adding some competition.
I like RK for automotive batteries. Is Sburg growing? Gaffney sure isn't - 1975 = 12,500 pop. 2025 = 12,600 pop.
Rural King has Cam-2 bar oil cheap, and at our semi-local store it goes on sale several times a year.
No Rural King in Oklahoma either. I do order from them around Christmas when they have their sales with $5 shipping. Got 6 gallons of bar oil on sale dirt cheap ($5.99/gal) shipped for just $5. My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder. Lopi Endeavor and Republic 1250
Your going to love RK! I always say I think I could survive just fine on 3 stores, RK, Menards, and Aldi
Never been to an RK. I was surprised at some of the stuff at Menards. I think grocery shopping at Aldis takes half as long as other stores, mostly cuz they don't have 50 different varieties of things. Easy to find what you want and wide aisles. Wish we had one closer.
Oh, mercy sakes alive it’s growing way too fast to suit us. New subdivisions popping up everywhere. Thankfully where we live out in the county we’re somewhat insulated from the growth at least for now. As an aside, following Helene’s departure the amount of forested land that had to be logged is making prime targets for the developers to come in and put up their tract homes. The only positive is that where there is no sewer or water infrastructure it will take a bit longer to be developed.
I’m looking forward to having another choice for the things that I would be purchasing at this type of retailer. Where they are locating is a bit of a mystery though. It’s in the Mall in a previous Sears location. That means it’s in a heavily trafficked area. Just seems like a poor site for a “rural” products retailer. My only guess is that the rent was so attractive that it gives them a feel for the market to see if building their own stand alone location would be profitable. There is a Lowe’s and Home Depot in the same general are so maybe that’s another reason?
Our local RKO store is in a rental bldg, was "farm n fleet" before RKO. The building doesn't get maintained the best, I know a few years back the roof leaked and they had buckets and "slippery when wet" signs in the isles when it rained. Rumor was they were moving to a newer bldg (old Kmart) in a less "rural" part of town, suddenly the roof was fixed, and they stayed put. The only thing that would have been nice about the newer bldg was it was larger...there is an RKO about an hour from here that is in huge bldg, they have a killer selection compared to the local store! (Not that our local selection is bad, but theirs is better, and our isles are tight!)
I'm only an hour away and don't know of any RK's around. Got two TSC's, and a Family Farm and Fleet within a 20 minute drive. Family Farm is about 2/3 the size of the TSC
TSC store here is for the affluent now (they parked their store on the rich side of town). Rural King is the new Farm & Fleet for the rest of us...and they got guns.
Closest thing we have here is Tractor Supply, I am still on the fence about it. To me it sort of reminds me of a Harbor Freight farm store? It just seems every time that you turn around there is more imported junk and less quality than there was the time before.
Ours does...they have a complete "Gun Barn" and decent prices...I buy gun stuff there as much or more than anywhere
I like RK much better than TSC. They opened a 2nd one near me about a year ago and it is really nice.
