Kathy and I visited a local state park. We hiked about 2.5 miles. Beautiful day here and very happy to spend it outdoors. 20250526_144418.jpg 20250526_135846.jpg 20250526_132748.jpg 20250526_133003.jpg

    It's about time.

We've had a number of conversations with my wife's aunt, uncle, and cousins in the Bay area about this. There's been a couple of major fires that were totally preventable.

There is this prevailing idea that we are supposed to let nature alone and clearing and tree removal is bad. The fires are starting change people's minds. We didn't have fires like we do today because the land was kept cleared anywhere people lived. It's more complicated than that but it is a big reason.

My family and I spent the three day weekend finishing up the garden build. In our county they have a wood chip drop hotline, just sign up and whoever is doing tree work in your area will drop their chips at your place. I had a total of 6 drops and used all of it covering the garden. I got a surprise while spreading the chips with the tractor- I scooped up a pair of chainsaw chaps!

I remember first time I saw it in 1986; I was amazed. kindling at least 6 inches deep and humidity low enough there were no mosquitoes, Just SW of Redding. I understand letting nature take it course, but you try to limit her fury. Flood control dams, don’t build in avalanche zones, planes flying around storms.

We went hiking this spring in a state park. One one side of the trail they did a prescribed fire, on the other it was unburned. The burned side had 100% more life in it. I have a few sections of my property I'm going to have burned in the next couple years.

Your garage and tools along with your projects is like a candyland for wood workers and home repair!

Well, we had unexpected pouring rain and wind Monday afternoon. Go figure. But. Before that. I managed to go with my wife for an early walk. Take her to Lowe’s and get 30 bags of mulch on sale for $2/bag. Brought it home and spread it around her flower gardens so she could put it in. Then I drove around to three places until I managed to find an in-stock set of new blades for the 60” zero turn deck. Luckily Tractor Supply about 30 miles away had them. Local store was out of them. Pulled deck off, cleaned it. Replaced the blades. Put it back together and mowed for two hours. Then the weird weather came in. Good day though. Today was spent resting after going in to work some overtime overnight last night. :picard:Good :emptywallet:but tough on the body and mind.

I'm a big fan of having good tools. And chainsaws. Just like everyone else i wish I had a bigger dedicated space for woodworking. But I'm happy to be able to enjoy my hobby like I do.

Looks like that radius drywall will be around for awhile......:p

Picked up my second bearing at Grainger on my way home today. Miter saw back together and running like a top. Super happy to not be replacing the whole saw. $12.00 way better than dropping big money on a new saw.

Engineers should have to come out to the site and build what they draw up! :hair:

I agree wholeheartedly. Things would be way simpler if engineers had to wrench on cars or put up buildings. Different job today. Have to install some Corian countertops
