Spotted this en route to a delivery last week. Had another delivery for him today so the 241 made the trip. Fresh cutting back from the wires. Black birch and a black locust probably cut three years ago give or take. Bark falling off. On a steep hill made it more challenging.. IMG_7415.JPG Luckily just enough room to park safely as its a busy state highway. Close to a half cord for the load. IMG_7416.JPG IMG_7417.JPG
Left some BL at the top as it was not worth the risk. IMG_7418.JPG

Steep is an understatement! Great score despite the challenges though.

Good score! Won't be long I'll be back at it. Wish I could find some BB.

I had stopped real quick on the way back last week to be sure. Passing it quick and stopping to actually see it's close up are two different things.

I have a customer who likes BB so he gets a cord of it provided I scrounge enough of it. This will start his 26-27 tally.

Nice score Brad and yes that’s steep. Cameras usually don’t pick up steep well so when they do,,,,,,,

These trees were cut 3yrs ago. The black birch was left in a log, Birch rots quickly, as I understand. Was there any rot?

Big question here is.........if the scrounge had to be carried uphill instead of downhill, would you still have attempted it? :D

Birch was fresh cut and I initially (last week) thought the BL was too until I saw the weathered end cuts yesterday. Ill take the BL either way.

EDIT: I just reread it and should have worded it better.

Big answer here.........I have in the past, but not on a hill that steep. I prefer gravity to work with me and at my age its not.
Im sure you can relate! ;)

I quit working on steep slopes many moons ago. The last time I did some cutting on a riverbank I said enough...after I was able to get up again. This old wrecked body does not do that stuff any more.

Those grubs go well on a stick over a fire. Just a sprinkle of salt gets them yummy.
