I am amazed at what they don't teach is schools today compared with what was taught when I was in school. One of my pet peeves is counting money, writing checks and making simple budgets. Not to mention proper feeding of pets, like your pet dinosaurs and such. I don't think phones were even mentioned.

It is amazing and that's coming from a teacher. The world is always evolving and so should education. It does in some ways and in others it doesn't.

My 11 & 9 y/o nieces & my 8 y/o grandson can’t tell time unless it’s on a digital clock. They don’t teach how to tell time on a dial clock here anymore.

I was flabbergasted when my grandson told me that.

No offense intended but people are easier to control with the less they know. Add to that most people don't even have the desire to know or were taught not to question, just do what you're told. I'm sure you can see where this is headed.....

I sometimes find myself making an analog clock picture of the time in my head when reading a digital clock. Kinda like translating.

Talking about clocks has got me thinking, it's been some time now since I've heard the tick of a second hand. Probably never again......

Have those kids even seen an analog clock? Their whole world is digital.

I have a couple & so does my mother, that’s how we came to find out they couldn’t read a clock.

Right, so one or two here and there. Everywhere else they go, they are all digital. I bet older adults in the 1920's said something along these lines, "Look at all these kids today that don't know how to shoe a horse. They just want to get in a car and go."

Let's see how fast they can do math from the whole of 60. Was much easier for me to visualize a clock face.

Without knowing how an analog clock works, how do they know what clockwise and counterclockwise is? Maybe those won't be mechanics.

Working in a school office was interesting. As the years went by, fewer students could read the analog clocks that were in the hallways and the office so my co-worker put a digital clock by the sign in/out book in the office. Students today don't even look at it as they whip out their phones and check the time that way.

Now they will need to know rounding up/down too, the penny is supposed to stop being made.

Canada discontinued the penny quite a few years ago as it cost too much to make them. With digital payments, the amount doesn't change but with cash it is either rounded up or down.

I see, we're not digital here but guess the cash registers will do the rounding up/down for cashier when people use cash.

yes, they are set up to do that. I don't do cash very often so I don't think I have a receipt handy to show you.

Agree, the skills and knowledge the next generations need are always changing compared to what the previous ones did. It's not right or wrong, just reality.
