Customer of mine had this taken down a couple months ago. She knew I did firewood and offered some to me to take. Did some work there today (she lives an hour away) and killed a little time after on the pile I could take from. I don't have to take it all and can pick and choose thankfully. 64" stump and trunk. Not touching it. I gave her jrider's number! To appreciate the size I took a selfie next to the top end. Swedish candles anyone? Also found an abandoned squirrels nest in the hollow. Long attached guy wire. Friend of hers got the better wood grrrr. Not a lot on this cut. Didn't feel like moving brush and big logs to cut more. Have more work for her coming up so another cut or two. Need a longer bar too.
Yea that's a biggun! Looks like three main leaders after about 8ft of that massive stump. I'm sure jrider is fueling up the truck as we speak
Even with 80% of the trunk rotted out the remaining wood will still get you 20 splits! That's a bigun!
I love burning sugar maple but when it comes to those big ones, I usually shy away. Straight, forest grown, 14-16" DBH is about perfect for me. The big open grown yard tree scores always turn into a fuel sucking noodle fest.
Don't forget labor sucking! I honestly didn't want any, but shes a nice lady who has given me lots of work over the years. She opted to have them leave it and clean it up herself. Ill slice and dice (and noodle) what I want in my pile. Maybe hack off a round or two from the big trunk.

I got one like that buZZsaw BRAD but I got it delivered to splitting area. I am not convinced the monster is worth it
I'm new to this but I am learning quickly to shy away from those giant ones on FBM when hording. "labor sucking" is an understatement sometimes. I've nearly busted a nut more than once trying to roll some of those giant rounds on to the trailer. But if she's a good customer sometimes you just goda do it.
It isnt. In a controlled area i might attack it. For chits and giggles i might attempt it, but her being an hour from me is another obstacle. Wonder how much it would yield?
As ive aged and learned ( I see were the same age) to section up big rounds for ease of handling and saving my back. Especially sugar maple which is the heaviest of the maples. I noodled (sectioned up with the saw) most of those rounds for such. Suppose I couldve tried the maul but after going up and down a ladder for most of the day I was on the tired side.
My guess, just that crotch piece, 2 truck loads usable splits and 1 truck load of stuff that’s barely burn able. And a day with tractor, splitter and saw
