Recently, I've noticed the chain getting very little oil during cutting. I took the bar off to check the oiling and saw nothing coming out of the slot. With the guide plate (32) off, I can see some oil trickling out of the hose (1) at WOT, but little if any oil makes it to the bar. Changing the adjustment settings had no discernible impact.

Before I take the whole thing apart - do any of you have some suggestions for the likely culprit here? Thanks.

Plugged filter at pickup hose, tank vent plugged or partial plug, lines to pump kinked or split or faulty pump. All are possible causes.

The one thing I do with all my bars is open the oil hole on all my bars

Could be worm drive worn. Looks like screw goes from bar oil chamber to chain had that happen on jonsered

I like the KISS method. Id start with draining the oil tank and making sure the filter and line isn't plugged then go from there.

I bought a vintage homelite saw of the local online auction that wouldn't oil. It was plugged from the filter out to the bar pad. Lol. The filter had deteriorated and let the fines pass through.

I keep a soft bristle brush with my saw kit to get at much of the debris off from around the caps before opening them. It only takes a few seconds and will save me a headache later.

Filter is squeaky clean. I'll take a look at the oil pump once my clutch removal tool shows up in the mail...

Got in there tonight. Very dirty on the inside. Hoses and pump look ok from what I can tell, but the collar (item 10 in the diagram below) looks like it was made from plastic and was disintegrating. Replacement parts are on the way.

I will say this about the CS-590. It's a lot of saw for the money, but I have had more parts breakages and down time than I would have liked. It seems like I spend as much time working on the saw as cutting with it.

Thanks for reminder. I need to grab a couple of these for my Makitas.

    We have oil!

...and it seems to be getting to the chain pretty good. There is some dripping/weeping in the clutch area. I'm not sure what I can do to fix that...

Every saw I've owned / own will have oil dripping from the clutch cover area because it gets slung all around the inside of it.

I use these. Some are worse than others, but they all 'leak'.

They are laying under all my saws and have greatly reduced the 'horsepower sweat' issues.

I usually used cardboard but have switched to them. Much better.

I'll admit that old bath towels used to sit under mine. The diapers work much better and are cheaper to replace.
