I don't think I've seen any bundles around here that DON'T have bark on them. Will need to watch the labels more when I see them, maybe take a few pictures.
I almost always take note when I see bundles for sale in my travels. Many of the “local, or homemade” contain bark. I wonder how they are getting by with that. The main one I am thinking about must be a sizable operation, because I see their products at a lot of locations in a pretty big area. Don’t really matter because I have about as much bundle business as I care for right now. But still curious if they have ever been contacted by the state.
Bark is a given on bundles around here. Im EXTREMELY picky about what will go into a bundle. If it has borers with powdery frass...rejected. Even though its under cover and pretty clean when stacked they still get in! I had a face cord of bark on oak that wasnt used and they seem to like the cherry as of late. The only barkless bundles I sell are smoker woods...hickory, oak, sugar maple and cherry. Mulberry, apple and pear have bark on splits.
In Ohio you also have to list the type of wood on the label. Mixed hardwood isn't acceptable. But you could just say oak, maple, elm and call it good as long as 90% of the bundle fits in one of these categories
