For a few years I've put off dealing with some dead ash trees on the property. EAB is killing all the ashes in the area. I have a tree service coming tomorrow, 4/3, to work up a quote. Four trees 1. It needs to be limbed before dropping what's left. There's open yard around the corner of the house. 2. Towards the back of the woodyard. No big deal dropping it, except its height would carry it onto a side street. Needs to be topped and felled. Dead center. 3&4 are along the side street, hanging out over the street and utility lines. Again, dead center. Just left of dead center. The one that curls towards the street. There's red oaks around that are healthy. But, if it makes sense for some large branches to come down, then we'll see. I'm sure the whole project will cost more than a few pennies. I'll end up with peace of mind and expensive firewood.
Have you contacted the utility company to see if they would come and at least limb the trees threatening the lines? It might save them an outage some day and you some $ now.
I can see the upper case "D" EAB holes in your pics. Good time to get them down as the meat will be good and you can take even the limb wood. See if they can leave it long to save you some money.
I'll get an opinion from the tree service on that. The branches don't hang over the lines, currently, but could should they fall. Good point!
The 2 trees away from the side street - $2k to delimb and drop. No chipping or cleanup. I'll deal with that. The 2 trees near street. One is on town property, the other on mine. He said the utilities won't deal with either until they fall. He suggested reporting both to the town tree warden, which I will. I will then talk with the owners across the street and tell them about the project. They are more affected than we are. We'll see.
Not a bad price IMO. Most of the hard work is what you'll do. I have a customer that had a huge sugar maple taken down, but they left the wood. She said it was quite a bit for them to haul away. She has offered the wood to me, some of which I'll be cutting next week.
This tree service has done work here a few years ago, taking down multiple oak trees. Very satisfied with the job done. I'm going with their quote. They are a month out with scheduling. No discounts.
Sounds like a plan to me. I had a tree fall onto the lines here and all Eversource did was cut small sections of the tree to get their lines free. The town came and took what was over the road and 6 feet in from the edge of the road. Lucky me got about 50 feet of eastern white pine trunk and a friend driving by saw it and wanted to practice cutting slabs.
