So this isn't completely perfectly to scale, and I didn't feel like drawing in all the shingles and siding too much on the side views, but I drew these for a better picture of my plan for the roof, turning the pyramid into a gable. I wanted to make it one simple gable with two rectangles, until I recalled that wouldn't work with the power mast location. This is the next best thing, reinforcing the original roofline towards the front porch, and continuing with the new roof for the rest.

The only other thing im hung up on, is the roof on the back porch area, where it's already a gable, but narrower than the rest of the house, and a lower pitch. I'm not sure I'd love the fact that it won't match the pitch of the new gable, but if I change it, it'll cost a bit more, not to mention that part is still nearly new construction, but then what's a few hundred bucks on a project this size? but then I'm not made of money, and leaving that part intact would help line up the new gable end on the main part better. But if I do change it, I can make it match the new gable, or I could turn it into a hip roof, to match the section of hip roof I have to leave out front. I kind of like that idea, at least visually.

Life comes with dilemmas.

 

Those 3.7 v6's are flex fuel too. Like the 5.0 in that way. My brother has the 3.7 in his transit van. It's a 3/4 ton transit and it has served him very well so far.

 

The Amish guys got the fence built in under 4 hours. They had a pretty sweet post vibrator on a skid steer, another skid steer for cutting a path through the woods, and a nice Kubota tractor for moving posts and stretching wire. If you include the trucks and trailers they probably had close to $500K worth of equipment on the job so it had better happen fast. They said they can run 2,000' a day and I believe it.

 

A few years back when we put in our pasture fences, we rented a post driver for my neighbors skid steer and pounded over 200 posts in at 20' spacing (except at gates and corners) in a weekend with 3 of us. Getting the rest of the fence up took a couple weeks of evenings doing most of that myself.

Those guys that do it for a living make it look easy, but it's a lot of work. About half of our posts were Locust... I never bent over so many fence staples in my life...

Those post pounding vibrators make those posts just slide right in.

 

Can't say I've heard much bad about them. And for what I do, today's V6s have plenty of power.

 

I'm going to be seeing socks in my sleep tonight, what a load I handled today.

The more I think about it, the more I'm looking forward to going to the new location.

 

It's just so odd that Amish have 500k in equipment. Unless it's in mules or oxen, it's just wrong.

Those 3.7's powered a crap ton of police and municipal vehicles.

 

Now that's bad.

One thing about my job, I'm constantly seeing all different stuff. If it was always the same like that, it'd get monotonous a whole lot quicker.

 

That's two types of vehicles I don't want to drive

 

Just showing that they're reliable

Must be "modern Amish." Last i new they couldn't use anything with an engine or electricity.

Maybe it only applies to the women in the house. I tried to find something to backup what I'm thinking but this was the best i could come up with.

 

I'm sure there's different groups to different extremes.
