Cool video stinny! Always neat to see how things used to be done, especially in the logging industry

Note that he called it a cant dog, not a cant hook.

Log drives did live on a little longer in other parts. I saw log drive in Quebec in 1981.

The rivers in Maine were a mess about the time all the log drives stopped. Raw sewage, etc. Lot of years and a lot of money spent later... rivers are clean now. An honest to gawd environmental achievement. Only people working together, using common sense, got it done.

That metal log chute was something else. I wonder how they got the logs out of the eddies at the base of the dams? That is some heavy churning water.

Seen a few vids of some log drives, first time for that one. For awhile there I was doing some research on the logging industry in Maine and NH. Railroads, log drives, pulpwood, ax men, loved the history if it all. Thanks for sharing.

Your railroad research had to have included the SR&RL in western Maine. 2 foot gauge, really interesting stuff. My Dad told of taking it to baseball & basketball games he played in when he was a kid.
