For me a 1/4 cord not be less that $140-150 more for +10 mile delivery and $20 to stack if less than 5-10 steps. More steps and/or wheelbarrow more $ pending distance. In my 1/3 cord baby dump $175.

RCBS That pic in post #1 is a very honest 1/4 cord, I would have said a face cord.

Around here, $90/face is fair market value for seasoned hardwood.

Delivery IMHO is not worth it unless it is a friend or a veteran customer and they WILL help unload it.

I'm not the type of guy to try to get over on anyone. I'm almost out of the truckload business at least for the short term. Roadside woodstand is starting to see a little movement and I need to keep inventory available for it. There are roughly 3.5 remaining cord of mostly oak that is below 20% strictly for selling. I expect to move more in the 'recreational' seasons than I do for heating ( I could be wrong, this is new for me). I have yet to sell a load of wood to a stranger. It's always a friend or relative of a coworker, etc. Of course I don't make myself known as a seller either though many know that I 'do firewood'. When I was advertising I had a disclaimer for discounts to Vets and or Elderly/Disabled but did not give detail. Had I started doing this 25 years ago, I would probably seek more business but as it is prefer to just have outlets for my overstock. The woodstand can hopefully take care of most of my overrun in the future. Feedstock hasn't been great this winter. Plenty for me but selling wood has not been cut yet. We'll see what the spring brings for blowdowns.

Plenty of cheap firewood around Nashville. I charge 2-3x more and get all the business I can handle. Many reasons why that I don’t care to explain. 303 ricks delivered last year and 89 as of today for the year. Bombarded with orders yesterday, but can only deliver four face cords per run. So limited each customer to 1/2 a face cord before the snow and cold arrived. They were all happy and I didn’t have to turn down any customers. Left home at 8:00 and returned at 3:15. Long day for 12 measly Benjamins.

With a little investment, you could haul at least 2 1/2 - 3 cords...especially with the distance you have to go...

We had 4 face cords, 3 stops, on the trailer, with room for more. Trailer will hold 8 totes and truck can hold 1.... 1000015490.jpg

I agree. I'd definitely be looking into ways to cut down on the number of trips I had to make and upping the number of stops.

$50 load , a few local guys will provide free for elderly and widows in need. I'm not saying the woods not worth more, It's just a very rural area with little money.

I wheelbarrow and stack 100% of my deliveries and need to be able to get into narrow driveways and back alleys. My typical 4 facecord delivery takes me about 200 miles down the road. Load your totes ahead of time or load your truck and trailer from your stacks or piles. How do you get the wood from the totes to the customer's backyard firewood rack? I find loading four face cords and then delivering it the next day to be my max limit physically and mentally. Anyway, happy with 12 Benjamins per outting (with tips). Remember, I am not in the dump and run business model. I collect every dollar available from producing to getting it onto the customer's rack. $600 for the first picture, $900 for the second.

Tips are a very important revenue source for me. My diesel fuel, truck and trailer tires, and general travel maintenance costs are a big expense. However, my tips cover most of this. I average $22 a rick in tips. Some none, most $20 and a few $50 to $100. I am just guessing, but dumping in driveways with all the extra work and cleanup required by the customer propable doesn't generate tips?

We stack in the totes off the splitter, load totes on trailer with tractor and go. We take it out of the totes and stack of wanted. It was just a suggestion. :salute:

You're the one who said you could only deliver 4 facecord per trip and had to limit your customers. You didn't give an explanation as to why that is your max other than show us a full trailer.

I get tips on 10%-15% of my deliveries but I'm only in their driveway for 5 minutes max and then it's on to the next delivery. Those tips are usually enough to cover the cost of fuel for my day as most deliveries are within 10 miles. On a busy weekend in the fall when I have good weather and everything lined up, I may deliver 25 cords and do it on 2 tanks of gas.
