    This is how I do it . IMG_20250121_104545_HDR.jpg IMG_20250121_104523_HDR.jpg
The bent wire on the 251 is attached to a Super strong magnet . It measures 16" wood . The All thread rod that goes through the hole in the bar of the 193T is adjustable . At the moment it's set for 18" wood. But is adjustable for out to 36" wood .

I do it similar. Rod on a magnet attached to my bar. I've got mine set for 16" which fits both my stoves.

My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder.

Similar system here. I have a homemade marking stick on a magnet. It’s set for 16” but I have notches at 14,16,18, and 20”. Awesome tool to have when dealing with long logs.

If and when I feel like measuring and marking I use a tale and automotive marker. Most times I just eyeball it. My stove will take a pretty long split and I end up coming pretty close to 16" to 18" my stacks aren't as pretty as some but it burns.

If I was selling wood I would measure it. Too much work to sell it for what I could get for it, so I just eyeball it as well. Like you said my stacks are not pretty either, but it all makes heat. Going to quit stacking this year as well. Unlimited amount of IBC totes for free, so going to build several 5 cord cages and toss it in. Also going to make a few raised bed gardens out of half totes this spring.

Pro-sizer, nice little compact laser that bolts to the handle. Works great, battery lasts well in the cold. USB charger. Huge time saver and it out of the way.

I needed something fast and accurate last year for a customer that wanted exactly 16" wood . And had another order for 18" wood . So the all thread , fender washers and nuts .
The bent wire and magnet one , a friend made up and gave me .

16 inch piece of white PVC pipe (white makes it harder to lose) and either a lumber crayon or piece of chalk.
