Well, not really, but it looks like my roadside and FBM scrounges are over or drastically cut back. Been in the works for a while and today came to fruition. Tree service owner directly across the street from my wood storage has offered me wood in the past and I finally took him up on it. Shows me a pile of logs and says mark the ones I want and he'll pull them out for me to cut right in the yard. All mixed hardwood. I should be able to cut and fill most of my inventory just from here. Great labor saver and a lot less stress. What I'll cut tomorrow for starters. I can come at my leisure too. Just send him a text. He will be clearing an area just for my use.
Holy cow, I’d be there every darn day.. my stacks would eventually border my property line and go up from there. Killer hook-up Brad.
Your annual April Fool's post came a little early this year, huh Brad? That's an awesome arrangement. You can still scrounge whenever you get the itch too... I know you won't be able to completely give up the thrill of the chase
Yeah that thrill is hard to beat. I know you know that all too well. Ive already used that on my first April fool's thread. Before you joined. SCORE of a lifetime!
What does he do with it, how does he handle it? I'd maybe be talking to him about a deal with a processor that would benefit both. Is there much storage space on the property?
That’s quite a windfall Brad! How far you traveling to cut there? Can you split there too or do you prefer to split right off the tailgate? Great situation you have there, I’d say.
He has a processor and all the logs that are ideal go through it from what he told me. I see other trucks come and go with logs and wood. I know another seller that gets small dump truck fulls of logs. I also know he drops logs at other sellers too. The primo oak gets put aside and he has a buyer come from Canada to take them. I see them come home often with the log truck full from the days work. Plenty of storage there but lots of logs and equipment around occupying it. He had a big burn going and some nice logs were in it...oak and the fresh cut maple from that day. Busy guy so I don't chat too long with him.
Its literally across the street from my wood storage locations (ten minutes from home) so no more running around chasing scores. Bringing a splitter there maybe in the works. With the splits going to different locations it may be easier to process there. All of tomorrow's rounds going on the PU and split at storage.
The end of an era? Excellent deal Brad. Take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves,,,,,and I think the opportunities are just beginning. Busy guy, don’t want to bother him, I get it. With time it’ll all come together. For now just enjoy. Maybe you can build him a fence around the property,,,,with pallets and splits Solve those storage problems too.
Excellent score! What species logs did you have him pull? Between this and your other cut for wood job you should be set. Less time and fuel spent = $ in the bank.
Well, ain't that the cat's meow! Great job buddy, I know you have mentioned that he was there, and you were hoping to get lucky. Well you hit the lottery. The point of no more running around and close is awesome. Who know where it might go? One hand washes the other and I know you aren't afraid to work so maybe you both benefit from it. So now you can send me a map of your scores so I can start cleaning up your loose ends.
So happy for you, my friend. A lot safer than being beside the road. Tha LORD has surely smiled down upon you.
What a nice gift to happen to you! And all you had to do was give him an old girlfriends number? Double score!!! Anyway, might as well get this out of the way.............
I'd definitely talk to him about splitting the wood right there. Will save time and your back not having to load up rounds to drive them across the street, just to unload and split then have to stack.
Yes. 2023 he cleared a lot near me that was mostly BL. Spotted his job sign and called. Could've had a bunch at the time but with my storage issues I couldn't take any. I recall contacting jo191145 about taking a load of it. He also contacted me last year with a couple BL logs but I was too busy with my other work at the time and it got buried in his piles somewhere. Fast forward to the Fall. I called him looking for BL. He had me stop by and I didn't see any in there. That stack has a pretty good assortment. From cottonwood to hickory. He had me mark logs I wanted. Of course, It'd be great to have exactly what I want when I need it, but I'll figure it out and make it work.
