Once the wood is stacked, need something to do when friends stop by! Picked up this throwing ax for 12 bucks at Cabellas. More fun than I thought it would be, and a great way to spin yarns down by the woodpile. And better than horseshoes which you can't do in the winter. I am envisioning a hit the mark competition some fall evening with by cutting pals....
We picked up several throwing axes for the boys a couple years ago from a Budk catalogue. They were cheap, work fine but could be better balanced.
You need wooden handled ones. So you can play handles. We used to play in boyscouts. 2 players flip for first throw. One turn is both players throwing at the same target. Switch who throws first every turn. The goal is to split off your opponents handle. Loser has to whittle a new handle. Totally forgot aboutthis, going to havetopull out my old Tomahawk and get better for the next time one of you stop by
What happens if one of the players can't stick the ax? Loophole I guess I get the feeling that's what'd happen to me
I wanted to try this when we had the lumberjack show in town, but my shoulder was in no shape to attempt it. Did get to run the cross saw, though. Man, I need to process all of my footage from that.
My brother has a tamahawk be bought from a blacksmith at some Frontier festival (my family actually dresses up in old time cloths and camps at those). The tomahawk is a lot of fun though, we normally pin a playing card on a large cookie propped up and see who can hit it first. Once you figure out the right distance to get the hawk to stick, it's a lot of fun! He has some throwing knives too, but those are a lot harder to get to stick. It's not really like the movies where every throw hits the target with a "twanggggg"!
