Flatlander Hickory

A couple hours north I cut some wood with a compatriot of mine. Spotted some mystery wood going down the road. Checked it out later and came back.

Only picture I got after we loaded the truck. Some really old ash, some pine and hickory. Loaded the truck with all of the smaller rounds of hickory.

Pulled right up to the pile next to the on ramp. We both cut for a while and he loaded while I cut with an ms290. We had a truck load in 20 minutes. 2 people and being able to back up to the pile makes it quick.

Nice break from how I usually get wood. Normally I’m going at it alone and having to carry wood out a ways. By the time I fill an 8 foot bed to the rails I’m done.

That strap is not what I would call load bearing, it’s there for looks only. Highway patrol was out earlier. We weren’t going very far to get the wood home.



Cut all of it with a MS290 and a 445 husky. Luckily the Chevy didn’t break down on the way home.




Didn’t get any pics but we moved the wood from the truck to the wood yard with a Honda 3 wheeler and a pull behind cart.

We spilt a little by hand.

 

When I see buZZsaw BRAD loads I often wonder if Connecticut has unsecured load laws.

 

Yeah, or impersonating Asplundh laws or trespassing laws.

 

We do, and I have seen plenty of (mostly commercial) trucks pulled over for violations. The big one here is that anything sticking out the back more than 3 feet (I believe) needs to have a red flag or rag on it, for visibility.

We do. I was told its supposed to have a mesh cover. I am extremely mind full to be sure rounds and chunks are secure. Splits to when I'm delivering a half cord.

I often have 10' or longer lumber, downspouts. etc hanging out the back and I have a red flag I'll attach as Eric mentioned..

I can relate and the days of me doing that are numbered. I've gotten very spoiled by park right next to it, cut and load stuff I find on FBM.

Thanks! They’ll probably burn it in 4 to five years. Never had hickory in their stacks.

 

Nice grab! Hickory is a firewood I’ve never seen or collected. Unless I move out of state, I probably never will.

 

Hickory is like plutonium in the stove. I have a couple of cords I pull from for cold nights. Definitely not for mild weather burning.

 

Last of the hickory and ash until more is dumped there.
