My preferences are front loader with an internal heater (for self clean cycle and sanitary loads) and a prewash cycle plus bleach cup dispenser. They only use like a teaspoon or so of bleach but it does the job.
We got a top loader Speed Queen in the past year or so and love it. over a 20 year warranty on it A bit pricey but well worth it if that is the last one I have to buy. American made too.
We went this route 4 years ago and do not regret it one bit. Love the "extra water" cycle in the spring and late fall.
Was that extra? Looks like 7 year is the most I see on their site? Most of that brand top loaders are 5 year
gbreda I was wrong on the 20 year warranty, it is 7 years. They were having a special promotion for different models and we were able to upgrade to a 10 year warranty parts and in home labor. We got the washer in November 2019 and the cost was just under $1,000.00.
Recently bought a Speed Queen top load 7 year warranty and Made in America. I just commented to my wife that our clothes are much cleaner now than they were coming out of our old LG front loader.
My 2006 Maytag smoked back in February. I was looking at Lowe’s for a new commercial Maytag didn’t have it in stock. and discussed the speed queen with the associate who told me they sold them across the street at a furniture store. I was waiting for a sales guy to come over to the washer on the floor and he tells me the people at the counter bought it 5 mins before me. Was going to be 6-8wks to get a speed queen... after watching more videos on washers than I care to divulge they had the Maytag commercial MVWP576KW1 in stock at Lowe’s so I bought the following Sunday afternoon. Fast full tub washes but it stops when you load clothes- just an annoying aspect of newer appliances because they spin way faster. mans it does clean clothes towels etc way better than my 2006 infinity water setting unit you get 1/2 full or full- it works
Stick a shim or a butter knife in the open/closed hole on the bottom right, you could run the whole cycle open.
I get it. 4 beds washed every week is eight loads usually 4!people load of lights and darks per person per week. Towels rags linens dog beds. when I was single same house same number of beds 3 loads a week tops
Most research and folks I talked to said stick with an agitator, you get a better wash/clean. So that's what we did few years back, went with a Maytag. No complaints.
I used ATV with a guy who owns his own appliance repair business. When our old washer started leaking oil, I asked him what to get. He recommended LG. We bought the set (washer and dryer) a few years back. They've worked great. It's impressive how much less water the newer machines use. And they really spin at a good clip. Less time in the dryer.
We had a Whirlpool for 8-9 yrs, seal on the bearing went out, lost all the grease, was gonna cost a good bit to fix. When Uncle Sleepy Joe sent the check in the mail, we went to Lowe's, got a commercial duty Maytag. Some parts have 10 yr warranty. Had it a couple months now. Works and cleans nicely.
Time to update this old thread; I wanted another Bosch or speed queen. Floods in 2023 made that financially unwise. Asked my beautiful wife what she wanted for Christmas and birthday after Halloween. I want a washer for Christmas and matching Dryer for my birthday.. It’s her thing; it makes no sense to me why washer and dryer have to be a set. Honey they are both white they match I digress she gets front loader Samsung It dies 3 days before end of year warranty 2 miracles; we find warranty and they stand by product! bought same one as last time; thank heavens they match Paid extra $150 for 5 year warranty because they did refund it but it was a process
I have a recommendation what not to get. We bought a GE all in one washer/ventless dryer about 18 months ago. After 2 months the washer part crapped out. We tried to get it serviced for a couple months with no luck. A&E is the company that does(n't) do their service. A lot of run around. Finally we demanded that they pick it up and return our money. My wife must have struck the right nerve because it happened. We will NEVER buy another GE appliance. We now have a Maytag and so far so good.
Glad it was still under warranty. We had a front loader once, I liked it. We bought warranty also, so glad we did...it broke down, they fixed it...couple months later, bearing went out again...they bought it back like a totalled car...sent us a check for about $685...we got a top loader Maytag...it has a 10 yr parts warranty...
I have been doing some appliance research (specifically washer/dryer) as my old Maytag is in need of a bearing again (second time since I have owned it, bought used, probably 20+ years ago) I will probably elect to repair it again, because I know what I got, and what its weak points are, but from what I have found Speed Queen is the only one left that is really built to last more than a couple years...basic models still available. The more electronics they have the more trouble there WILL be, sooner, or later. If I were to buy one I think I'd buy one of the used commercial Speed Queens I see for sale locally...probably been used a lot, but, built well and made to be repaired! (which I can do)
I agree they only last couple years under average use. Hey we’re above average. These 2 in 1 make no sense except on a boat or a trailer/tiny home situation
We had the Maytag Bravo I believe. After 2 rounds of replacing the tub bearings( found a repair place that let me borrow the tools. They said they sit on the shelf because they will no longer do the bearing repair) I had enough. We bout a speed queen set from the place I got the tools from. Had them a couple years, only complaint is the washer is louder than the old Maytag. If I don’t have to pull the drum again I can deal with the noise!
