Mingo marker. Roll it along a log and it paints a mark at a predetermined length so rounds are uniform. Rather popular among some FHCers. I use a folding ruler and chalk.
I have a Mingo marker and I found it only works well if you are cutting in the open and on fairly flat ground. Trying to mark a log in the woods where you are stepping over all kinds of brush and navigating being on a hillside is difficult
I have for years used a spencer tape and horseshoe nail. I see spencer offers their own nail however at $100 for a bag of 25 not sure if I'll ever have one!
