I'm doing my best to get ahead and I have about 2 cords of maple and Bradford pear that should be good for next year. I've been trying to find some higher btu stuff to hoard for a three year plan. Snagged a nice load of oak today. Once split it should be at least a cord. At 18" high my trailer measures 140 cubic feet between the boards.
Awesome score. Nice trailer and nice size logs. You should a little over a cord there. Keep up the good work.
I recently acquired the rights to about a face cord of Bradford pear; a neighbor had the tree taken down, and is saving the wood for me (on her property!) until I have room for it in a couple of months. I did some poking around and found very little info on its density, but what I did find put it right up there in-between red and white oak. One can only hope. This winter will be my first chance to burn dry red oak. I have about a cord, most of it ready to go. It's almost enough to make me look forward to January.
Nice load, always feels good stacking oak and the smell if you like the red is nice in the fall (got to get a whiff of it myself today) Curious about the straps? worried those rounds are going to unload themselves or the sideboards have some slop? from the size of them they ain't going any where without a fight
I'm pretty cautious with securing stuff. I always stay the front and back pretty good - with my setup, they also keep the side boards nice and tight - built them with a little slop so they are easily removed. I run a small one around the back for insurance. Just a piece of mind thing for me.
Can't tie any load down too much. Every load of pieces I'd made for our cabin, we hauled 100 miles, were tied on with miles of rope it seemed.
Good score - those fat rounds can yield a surprising bunch of splits. Gotta say, redoak is my fave, but here it takes 3 years to get dry.
I was thinking though that after his Saturn hauling black locust pics, @Shawn Curry needs a 1 ton diesel with a trailer. The man will haul an entire forest!
Yeah I think I need one of each of those... That truck, trailer, and the load of oak! Awesome hauler and haul!
